The economy of Team Fortress 2

The economy in Team Fortress 2 is like the economy of our real world which is money.
But in this game you have to trade with the other players to get what you want at the best price.

The economy is based on the fact that you can craft scrap with weapon from your inventory:

The Crafting :

It's the ability in the game to turn 2 weapons into 1 scrap of metal.
Then with 3 scrap of metal you can make 1 recycled metal.
Then with 3 recycled metal youcan make 1 refined metal.

In the end you need 2x3x3= 18 weapons to craft one single refined metal.
Can you imagine the hours of crafting, players passed at making this metal? Thousands of hours.


So the base of TF2 economy is the refined metal:
A hat = a basic cosmetic in TF2 cost around 1.22 refined metal at this time.
