Zone | Red Grove
Hey everyone!

It's been a little while since an update as I've been primarily focused on getting Arakion ready for launch, however, I wanted to take a moment today to show off one of the zones that I really love called the Red Grove. In Arakion I really tried to give each zone a theme and as you'll see in the pictures below the Red Grove very much fits its name. The overall scheme for both the Red Grove overland and mines is gold and red.

The Red Grove

This is actually a relatively early area that you can access in Arakion (you can get there about 10 minutes in) and your primary goal of this area is to help a local race (The Anura) overcome a corruption that is inflicted upon them. The zone itself contains a large overland map and a large underground that culminate in a hefty dungeon with a fearsome boss.

In other news, I'm still focused on the release. Since I last updated, I streamlined skills, weapons, armor, equipables, town buildings and more. The primary reason is they were taking a very long time to manage in their current states and bugs were difficult to fix, with the streamline changes I've reduced dev time in those areas by more than half (great for updating). I should have a release date announcement soon so stay tuned!

Description
Release date: Q1 2017
Enter the world of Arakion, a group based role-playing dungeon crawler that pays homage classics while adding its own style with fresh mechanics. Lead a band of three heroes through a broken land, ripped apart by unknown forces. Explore a beautiful handcrafted world filled with crumbling dungeons, dense forests, ancient temples, and hidden secrets, all while attempting to build a safe-haven from the chaos.

The Story
Play as three adventurers awoken in a world torn by conflict, where the lands and rivers have been ripped from the ground. In midst of this upheaval there is but one desire - finding a place free from the conflict and chaos. In the search for order your heroes must find a way to stop the destruction from continuing.

Between your intrepid adventurers and their goal exists a council of immortal beings. They are known as The Ancients. The Ancients wandered Arakion since before written history. Their plan is simple - utter annihilation for all who oppose them.

It's time to begin your story, will you be the worlds salvation or destruction?

The Background
Arakion takes everything that made classic role-playing games like Might & Magic great, then adds an expansive set of new features. Lead your heroes through the breathtaking, desolated world of Arakion. Explore every alcove for the resources you need to customize your adventurers, build your town, and more. Relive the glory days of role-playing games with this one-of-a-kind experience. Arakion is a beautiful world where you will get lost in adventure and exploration.

The creators of Arakion have been inspired by a multitude of games - everything from Dungeon Master to Dark Cloud 2. Our desire is to take everything that makes those games fun and bring it into one amazing package.

  • How many people are developing Arakion?
Arakion is primarily developed by one person.
  • Arakion has been in development for a while, what took so long?
We chose to take the time to develop a quality product and engine as opposed to rushing Arakion to market. We were either going to do it right, or not do it at all. Players deserve a quality game, no matter how much time it takes.

Addendum | I'll be posting a zone preview of the 'Red Grove' this week as soon as I've wrapped up testing. should be in the next day or two.

@Tchey: Fair point, I have missed self-imposed deadlines, it's why I don't do them anymore and just develop as quickly as I can with the understanding it'll be out soon. I also should update more, I've always been bad at keeping on top of that.

As far as Grimoire, it was in development for 20 years and was/is a mess based on the reviews. I would rather avoid that outcome.

Appreciate you keeping me on my toes, I'll post an update this week.

Maybe. You've missed all your agenda, even when you've only announced news of news. Just imagine, Grimoire is released and not Arakion. How time goes that wrong ? Website, Facebook, Twitter, Kickstarter... all the places players should find news are outdated sometimes by more than 1 year. Not very trustworthy.

Ah! You scared me! Don't worry I'm still here working every day!

Booh !

@Tchey: Hahaha, yeah even I pass out from time to time. In terms of releases, there is a good chance a closed version will be released a bit before a public release and you'll be along for the ride. So you were spot on! I'll also be releasing a roadmap at some point so everyone has an idea of production plans.

Ah, so it means you do sleep ! Lazy you !

What about releasing a "closed beta" version for volunteers to help finding bugs before release ? It could be a simple Beta Branch on Steam with a password you give to people showing real interest for "testing", not only "playing".

I'd be in, i've done that many times before, and still do.

@Andruids: Indeed, this should be a lot smoother post-release. Arakion is very big and as a sole developer sometimes I underestimate the time needed and fail to account for burnout haha. . . Even with other work, I tend to put in ~60-80 hours a week on Arakion, which can result in severe burnout at inopportune times.

I'll post an update about the first version soon. The game is extremely fun at this point and I wish I could release it tomorrow but there are some loose ends to tie up. I'm considering doing some live streams leading up to the launch.

Appreciate the comment!

It's almost the end of June. The month you promised you'll release Arakion, after postponing it since January. I hope at least you learned that you need a couple of betatesters to competently assess your game, or else you will arduously seek those bugs yourself until cows come home.
Tchey Jun 6 @ 12:44pm
Oh i'm sure you have real reasons for being several months late, no worry ! I'm simply curious to see the "final" product, and i post here to move the dust.
