Faster Vanilla Horses

Like many, I found Skyrim's horses to be unrealistically and unreasonably slow. Travel by horse was hardly faster than by foot, making it unrewarding.

Horse speed and gallop-time has been given a significant -yet balanced- boost, for a more realistic (and fun!) experience. You'll find yourself riding more often, fast travelling less, and overall feeling like the mounts are more enjoyable and worthwhile.

No known bugs at this time.

02/08/2012 - Updated to Version 1.1:

After user feedback, and many hours of tweaking and playtesting, horse speed has been ever-so-slightly reduced to be a clean 30% faster than default. It feels really natural and balanced, without sacrificing the fun or feeling that you're moving at a full gallop. While speed has seen a reduction, your horse's stamina (gallop time) has been slightly extended. Like a real horse, yours wont need to take a breather every few seconds. As always, your feedback and suggestions are welcome; Please feel free to e-mail me at

Change log:
-Horse 'Run' and 'Sprint' speeds reduced to +30%
-Turning speeds restored to normal due to the Intro's horse trip becoming slightly quicker, causing a minor timing mismatch in the dialogue.
-Horse stamina increased.

Slower yes, however one thing I noticed all the ones complaining about the speed boost are ignoring the fact that.. The base skyrim horse has NO endurence.. yet they are supposed to have more than the Oblivion ones.

So I am nitpicking your nitpick :P

Same as the last couple of guys said. If compared to the horses in Oblivion, Skyrim horses are supposed to be slower. Its realistic.
I live in the real world comparison to Skyrim and our native horses are the same as Nords: toughened by the cold climate, but not really that fast.
With shorter legs and heavier builds they are the some of the slowest horses around.
They also have great personalities. :-)

Not to say would be vanilla slow, though, or that they would tire every 30 seconds or so.
Also I have a need for the speed so good job. :-)

I got it cause they are annoyingly slow, but I will point out that for horses that evolved in cold mountainous areas vanilla speed is realistic.

I know I must be really late but the Horses of skyrim are heavier and more sturdier than most horses in Tamriel, its mentioned in the game that what they lack in speed, the make up in muscle.

game balance wise its a nice idea but even in the game it literally says that skyrim horses are bred to be tough and have endurance as a tradeoff for their speed so its not that realistic, but by no means am I saying its a bad mod cause this is a game that needs to feel fun and if you want it to feel realistic or just entertaining thats fine but no means is this mod realistic to what the game says. But I presonally favor this mod due to its game balancing mechanics.
