excerpt: "Portal funneling refers to the game helping the player land in portals on the ground, by moving them slightly in the proper direction. Portal 1 had this, and Portal 2 has it slightly stronger." As far as I can tell, this test chamber requires either this effect, or an equivalent amount of midair directional influence, which, to me, feels more like a hack than a puzzle element.
