Introduction


It's the year 1400, dawn of the 15th Century, Africa is tense with the pressure from various factions trying to cut out an Empire for themselves, will you and your people withstand the test of time?


General

This is a 15th Century Africa Diplomacy Map. Play as an FFA, create teams in the lobby or change your allegiance after the game has begun. We encourage players to make and break alliances, in order to create interesting diplomatic situations. For more information on the map and factions, see the objectives menu.

This is a giant sized map with 7 players each representing a different real world faction:

Introduction to the previous century

Mongols Hordes have been harassing and destablizing eastern Europe since the 13th century.

Despite not being considering a real Ice Age, at the beginning of the 13th century there was a period in which average temperatures were cooler and warm summers became less dependable in Europe. This later became known as The Little Ice age.

Osman I founded the Ottoman Empire in 1299 and later conquests into the Baltic transformed the sultanate into a transcontinental empire.

Famines were not uncommon to Medieval Europe, localized famines began in France at the beginning of the 14th century. In the spring of 1315 heavy rains began in much of Europe. Throughout the summer it continued to rain and the temperature remained cool causing grain to not mature which lead to wide-spread crop failures. The prices of food began to rise drasticly, prices in England doubled between spring and mid-summer. This became known as the Great Famine.

Beginning of the Renaissance in Italy early 14th century.

In the middle of the 14th century The Black Plague ravaged through Europe claiming over a third of the population. The world’s population did recover from this deficit until the 17th century.

After outbreaks of the Black Death the last Il-Khan and his sons were killed by it, causing the Ilkhanid in Persia to collapse.

The Chaghatayid divided, creating opportunity for nearby kingdoms to expand.

The Mongol court was driven out of China, ending the Yuan dynasty and giving rise to the Ming.

Edward III of England made a claim to the throne of France kick starting the series of events now known as The Hundred Years’ War. Creating a large vacuum of power in Europe and leading to the Kingdom of Scotland to ally with the French, causing the downfall of the English and concluding The Hundred Years’ War in the favour of the French.

The cannon invented in the Ming Dynasty, China.

The technique of knitting is further developed and widely spread amongst commoners. Clothes became more accessible which allowed people to cope with the harsh winters of The Little Ice Age.

During the reign of King Mansa Musa the Mali Empire saw westward expansion and was the source of roughly half of the world’s gold.

The military text Huolongjing (Fire Dragon Manual) was a military treatise providing information on gunpowder compositions and various blackpowder inventions and devices. Originating from the Ming dynasty, the text was further circulated along the Silk Road in the late 14th century.

During the late 14th century a schism of The Roman Catholic Church lead to a situation where three men simultaneously proclaimed themselves the one true Pope. The rivalry greatly weakened The Papal throne, the church and undermined political and religious stability in Europe.

Due to an account of the life of Buddha being circulated among Christians as the story of Barlaam and Josaphat, Buddha is canonized as a Catholic saint under the name Josaphat.

Singapura becoming a large fortified city and important trading centre of the Malay archipelago.

Despite his short stature, Poland became unified under Wladyslaw I the Elbow-high.

Due to the famines raging through Europe and England’s partaking in a great war with the French, food prices and taxes in England had went up tremendously. This lead to a major dissatisfaction among the the peasantry resulting in The Peasants’ Revolt of 1381.

Islam reaches as far as the Malay Peninsula.

Thanks to their alliance with the French the Scots were finally able to win their own independent kingdom from the English. That lasted until the creation of the kingdom of Great Britain.

The union of Krewo between Poland and Lithuania making their united state a bastion against invaders in eastern Europe.

The Kalmar Union came to be in the late 14th century uniting Norway, Sweden and Denmark into a single Nordic kingdom, greatly consolidating their power in northern Europe.

Suffering from internal strife following the collapse of the Mongol Empire, The Kipchak Khanate is in steady decline, soon ready to fall into a series of smaller competing Khanates.
