Either I'm missing something, or the laser grid is supposed to turn off when you put the cube on the pedastal. Otherwise you're trapped in a non-portalable room, unable to access the passageway that opens. I did wonder whether you were meant to launch the cube only, but if it's possible to get it on the pedastal I wasn't able to do it through quite a lot of trial and error; having to reload after almost every true because the cube only occasionally lands close enough to the laser grid to grab it.
