Description
From the Diary of Edgar Allan Poe - May 27th, 1827

I was ashamed-unbelievably ashamed at the downfall my finances had taken. It was so that I had to leave university after only one semester on account of non-payment of tuition. I had thought my only option was to enlist; however on the way to the recruiter I met up with a gentleman from Aperture Science. They were looking for educated men, such as myself, with an eye for the creative to design test chambers for a new product they were working on. The pay was good and I thought once I replenished my savings, perhaps I could return to university.

I wanted to impress with my first chamber so I developed a room with a pit that could result in failure or ascend the tester to victory. I also added a pendulum like jump that I thought gave the whole thing a nice touch.

Found your level with a search for the #F4F tag.

You might be surprised how many dumb ways I tried to get the cube up where I needed it. It looks like *maybe* 1 out of every 100 times, a lucky player can launch the cube up by dropping it into the pit and then doing a trick shot with his portals. But I got lucky, and your solution was much more elegant.

Compared to what I had been trying, it was a slam dunk! :-)

Landing on the glass was surprisingly finicky. If you want to avoid that, maybe just put a portalable wall above the glass somewhere. When the player gets high enough, he can shoot a portal at it, fall one last time, then fly out up where he wants to be.

Can you try my level, "East-West Hopscotch":

It's my first level, but well-tested, in solid shape, and, I think fun / clever.

Thanks.

yeah this is a skill map not a puzzle still fun #F4F

Not as much a puzzle as a skillz test. Unlike most though, I didn't have too much difficutly with it (I suck at skillz maps and don't really like them, but this one wasn't bad). I was able to drop the cube through the portal, follow it and then portal the surface on the wall such that the cube took the trip over the glass but I wasn't launched. In other words, with a little work, no need to dunk it. Difficulty 7/10 (for skillz) Design 6/10

Great concept - I like how the tractor beam takes you where flinging can't, and the idea of a pit of both flinging-and-death.

[SPOILERS] Flinging with the cube, and later landing on the glass could use a bit of polish. Otherwise, awesome!

I really liked this chamber.

Haha, thanks tiagoling. I agree with your assesments. Have been thinking of a way to make that last fling a little easier. I will add one of your maps to my que, but I am out of town at the moment so won't be able to play until later this week.

Now, the proper feedback:
Again, I feel that once you know what to do, everything else is a piece of cake.
I think this map should act as a introduction to the fling yourself with the cube concept, which would be more thoroughly explored in another map.
And last, trying to land on the glass after the vertical fling, is a bit tricky. I currently don't have a proper suggestion on how to improve it, perhaps lowering the glass? Or making the fling higher so that you have more air time to move around? I don't really know, just try to make it less dependent on timing and skill...
And I think that's all.

Keeping up my end of the #F4F =).

I feel that once you find out what needs to be done, it is a fairly simple map. Before that... heh...
I overcomplicated my initial approach which frustrated me until I sv_cheated myself to the end of the map xD. On my first run, I tried to fling the cube using the angled panel in its original position. I got frustrated. Then, a few days later, I tried again, this time (without any hope) I flinged myself with the cube... and made it . My original thought was "REALLY?!"...

[LOL, comment exceeded 1000 characters. Will continue on a second post]

I have to say that was awsome, and even so not very flawsome. The style of that lovely lazer, was purley for design or phaser? Anyway I can't wait to play more, were I can die just exiting the door.
