Updated for 1.6.

Graphical mod only. No gameplay changes.

This mod fixes a couple of problems with the default visuals:
  • Fleets are too tightly packed and ships often clip through each other. Once you have a good sized-fleet and especially if you have allies, you can't even tell one ship from another. Not to mention the far bigger mess that two large fleets crashing into each other creates. Downscaling every ship type fixes this.

  • You don't get a proper sense of capital ships and escort ships because the scale between ship classes increases more or less linearly and corvettes for example are just too big compared to battleships. This mod creates a clear distinction in scale between corvettes/destroyers and cruisers/battleships.

  • Turrets are scaled down relative to ship sizes to give the ships a 'bigger feel' rather than looking like toys.

  • Engine exhaust trails and some weapon effects are scaled down as well.

-This mod is not made for improving performance.
-Mod compatibility: mods that add new ship types likely won't work with this OR won't use the right scaling

Compatibility patches:
-Compatibility fix for New Ship Classes.
-Compatibility fix for Improved Space Battles.
-Compatibility fix for System Alliance Ships.
-Compatibility fix for We Are Imperial Navy.

Known issues:
-some of the ship preview images during race creation look incorrectly scaled but everything works fine in-game

Change log:
-habitats are scaled down to 66%
-ships are even smaller now, about 40-50% of the vanilla scale compared to the 50-80% scale previously
-improved camera controls to suit the smaller scales
-fleet formation is reduced to 75% to suit the smaller ship scales now
-scaled down science nexus/spy orb

Great mod, and love the compatibility patches! This coupled with Real Space makes for a much more immersive experience.

Though, I'd like to ask, is there any plan to add a compatibility patch for Sins of the Prophets and the respective SotP New Ship Classes compatibility patch? The former (and its NSC comp. patch) is a very popular mod judging by subscribers, comparable to Downscaled Ships, and I'm sure many people would appreciate this!

Can you release a version with scaled down starports and mining stations? The ones I have currently are way too big.

Great, but with the compatibility patch for improved space battles, still having issues with clipping. I think its a mod called Realistic Ships. Battlecruisers are basically scaled up cruisers with one more ship section, though they still act like regular crusiers, so they clip into battlships w/that mod. Love this mod though would love to see a patch out for Realistic Ships!

@R.I.P Goose Is this the issue with the images during race creation again? Unless the models in-game look wrong, then it doesn't matter.

@Lashmer It's easy but tedious. All you need is a text editor and the ability to change 1 number per ship. :)

My fungoid and mammalian ships dont seem to downscale along with the other shiptypes, how do i fix this?. Ive tried a bunch of things, as i normally play with NSC. The bug appears even when Downscaled ships is the only mod ive got activated.. pls send help

How difficult would it be to learn to do this myself? In case the mod no longer becomes supported or new unsupported ships come out, I'd love to be able to make some patches for personal use. I appreciate the work you've done and the patches. Used this mod since summer last year, and haven't had a game without it.
