So... What's this game about?
Help Harry get his life in order! Harry is a hoarder, and he needs to clean up his act before the building inspector fines him into oblivion and forecloses on the family home. The problem is, Harry is only willing to part with the smallest of trash items... at first. You'll need to convince him to do what it takes to keep a roof over his head.

Sounds interesting. Dehoarder... 2? Was there a Dehoarder 1?
As a matter of fact, yes. Way back in the before time, in the long, long ago (2013), when Unity Web Player plugins still graced the verdant Chrome browser fields, there was an event called Ludum Dare 26. Dehoarder was born there. Created in 48 hours and my first jam attempt, Dehoarder went better than I could imagine. It was even featured by a couple of Youtubers, notably by Indie Impressions. Dehoarder was limited to a single-room home due to the 48-hour time constraint of the competition. Dehoarder 2 is a much fuller expression of the game concept, since it was so well received.

Can I check out the original Dehoarder?
Yes! The web version is still up on Kongregate if you have a browser still able to use the Unity Web Player plug in. There is also a downloadable version (for PC) accessible from my website.[]

Cool. So how much bigger is Dehoarder 2?
Well, did you ever see one of those posters that compared the size of the Earth to the size of the Sun? Dehoarder 2 includes a full two bedroom, one bath single family home with basement and garage, set on a lot spanning over half an acre. Similar neighboring houses stretch on as far as the eye can see, and wooded hills back up to every lot. So yeah, a lot bigger. Dehoarder could be completed in 15 minutes. Dehoarder 2 should take more like 15 hours to complete.

Will the graphics and sound be better in Dehoarder 2 than they were in Dehoarder?
Absolutely. Due to the rules of Ludum Dare, all graphics and sound needed to be created within the 48 hour competition, so the graphics and sound there were kept basic by necessity. Every single graphic element has been overhauled. With the power of Unity 5, technologies such as real-time lighting and shadows and material-based shading are baked in.

What new stuff will there be to do in Dehoarder 2?
I'm glad you asked. Of course, there will be a much larger variety of junk, and many more ways to get rid of it. Selling junk returns new and improved with a simulated online auction market. You can also recycle and donate junk. Special trash bag pickups will allow you to dispose of lots of small items with a single click. Speaking of lots of items, there will be a LOT more junk to get rid of in Dehoarder 2, much of it stored under pressure in cabinets, drawers, and closets. There will be more to deal with than just junk, too.

Like what?
Like replacing all of that fouled furniture, and remodeling freshly-cleaned rooms, for two examples. Tending gardens is another way to improve your home, eliminating weeds and nurturing flowers. Of course, to pay for all of these improvements, you will probably need a job to provide a steady income. Plenty of jobs are available in the thousands of newspapers lying about.

What About that Rat?
Don't let him bite you, bad things might happen. Rats are just one type of vermin you will need to contend with. Cockroaches, flies, mice, and mosquitoes all also detract from house appeal and create unhealthy living conditions. You will need to find ways to eliminate vermin, though if the underlying mess remains new vermin may simply move in to take their place. Seriously, though. Don't get bitten too much.

Sounds Scary.
It's just one of the many ills that can befall our hero Harry. Who knows what other fates Harry may have?

How far along is the game?
The game engine is feature complete, and story content is currently being added to the game. So it is pretty far along. I expect it will be ready for beta later this spring.

Any plans for other platforms or languages?
It depends on how things go with what I know. Releasing for Mac and Linux should be pretty easy. The game is designed for multilingual support and will ship with support for English, Klingon, and Hodor. The mod system would easily allow a community-provided translation file to be loaded...

Mod system?
Yes, I almost forgot to mention that. Right now it can handle replacing/augmenting anything text-related (database entries, game events, languages, etc.), though I am hoping to extend it to allow support for user-provided texture, model, and audio assets.

Why a game about hoarding?
The concept came about through brainstorming ideas to fit the theme for Ludum Dare. The theme was minimalism, so I decided to make a game about minimalizing one’s lifestyle.

This all sounds really awesome. What can I do to ensure this sees the light of day?
First, vote YES. Second, tell 10 or more other people that you know to vote YES.

Where can I find out more information about Dehoarder 2 or Smiling Cat Entertainment?
The best place to keep up-to-date would be my website[]. I regularly post blogs that include the latest status of games currently in development. You can also access many of my earlier games from there, too. Most of them are free.

Hi, I am a newbie soundtrack composer. I made a demo reel. Do you think my music is good enough for your game? Thank you, sincerelly.

Imagine this with multiplayer. It would b the next Vicera clean up detail.

@MrSquirrels: Good idea, though you would quickly come across some market limitations if you tried to sell everything at once. With eJunk, selling items takes time. You post your items and buyers bid over a period of 24 in-game hours. If you oversupply the market, prices will crash and demand will sag. Plus, there is not much market demand for empty soda bottles in the first place.

You'll find that you need to use and balance all of the different ways of getting rid of junk.
