Introduction
Devs hasn't bothered to add proper on-screen prompts to this game or actual xinput controller support, so you have to figure it out by yourself. While all configuration is straight-forward, the game uses GUI that relies on physical position of buttons and that's the tricky one to find out.
I made this guide basically for myself, so I don't have to remember.
If you find this usefull, feel free to say hi.

What I don't understand is, no matter what, the keys don't match the one screen mapping. If button 4 is Y, then why in game does it appear button Y is on the left instead of the top? This makes the experience nigh impossible, having to look at the on screen display to see where I mapped certain spells and tools, look to a guide to remember what key is what, then look to my controller to press the right one? It's so stupid, I just want the on screen visuals to match the actual position of the buttons, I can work with it calling each button by a number, the visuals just need to match my controller, this can't be this hard to fix, is there no mod or anything to make this easier??

almost the same but i did mine a bit diff.. i put map cycle on the d-pad down.. no need for the default command there. attack, stay where you are, and come to me is more than enough to complete the game. also i put zoom in/out on right stick.. camera is on z triggers as no bind on those.. update maybe? bumpers and stick presses are for weapons/spells, etc. all binds feel fine to me. thankx for the post!

@Non-Dominated The guide says the game uses an outdated version of xinput, it doesn't allow for triggers

Even using XInput Plus doesn't change that.

For some reason, I am unable to make any use of the trigger buttons at all on a Xbox wireless controller when trying to map the buttons.:steamfacepalm:

I can't figure out the jump button... I used it a lot for traps on the ps2 version but I'm so totally boned here...

Ok, i refunded the game because of the uncomfortable joypad configuration. A few days ago, i found something on the GoG-forums that helped me (bought the game again, but on GoG this time) to perfectly set the button configuration in an easy way.

THE SOLUTION IS: XInput Plus
Just Google for this little, powerful tool which seems to be pretty useful when it comes to joypad-compatibility-problems regarding old games.

I hope this may help!!!

I guess I'll have to get used to the current key bindings then i suppose :/ shouldn't take too much away from the game but still a pain
