Step 1 - Open The MAS File Utility
  • Open rFactor 2 from your Steam Library

  • Click on the MAS2 icon in the left column of the Launcher to open the MAS File Utility (MAS2.exe).

ADVANCED USER NOTE: Instead of the Launcher access, if you have installed the Dedicated Server Distribution through SteamCMD, you will have to navigate to C:\yourdedicatedserver\Support\Tools and click on MAS2.exe
See this Steam Guide for details on Setting Up a Dedicated Server.
Step 2 - Setting the Packages Directory (first-time set up)
  • Click on the Filing Cabinet icon (hovering over this icon displays "Set Packages Directory")

In the pop-up window make sure your current Packages folder location is selected
  • Highlight the Packages folder
  • Then click OK

Note: This step is only needed the first time you open MAS2.exe, unless you have multiple dedicated servers (advanced user).

Step 3 - Creating the Package File
rFactor2 Mod Packager window
  • Click on the Box icon from the top bar (hovering over this icon displays "Create the Package File")
  • Click the top button Create New Mod Package

Create Package window
  • Type in a name for the RaceEvent in the Mod Name box: in this example, My RaceEvent GTs is the name of the RaceEvent

NOTE: If you want to change the default safety car, check the Customize box, and then select an option from the rFm File dropdown menu.

NOTE: If you are creating a Stock Car RaceEvent, it is highly recommended to select NSCRS15.rFm from the rFm File dropdown menu

Step 4 - Adding Tracks and Cars
Add Tracks window
  • Select your track/tracks from the list (hold down Ctrl or Shift to select multiple tracks)
  • Click Next>>

Add Vehicles window
  • Select your car/cars from the list (hold down Ctrl or Shift to select multiple cars)
  • Click Next>>

Step 5 - Additional Components (optional)
Add Other Components window

For a basic setup, you can skip these additional components
  • Click Done

Step 6 - Creating the RaceEvent Package
Create Mod Package window

IMPORTANT!
Do not select (check) the Locations and Vehicles boxes on the left (see image).

NOTE: If you want to exclude any layouts or drivers, deselect (uncheck) the corresponding boxes on the right (see image).

  • Click on Package
  • Click Install
  • Then click OK in the mini pop up
  • Finally, click Done

Close MAS2.exe

When you open the Dedicated Server setup window, you should now see your RaceEvent in the dropdown list.

And that's how to make a RaceEvent in rFactor 2.

RaceEvents can be used offline in single-player mode or online to host a multiplayer race.
See the rFactor 2 Quick Guides on Single Player RaceEvents and on
Hosting Multiplayer RaceEvents for more information.

Have fun and good luck all!

The Add Tracks and Add Vehicles menus are completely blank. The game is working normally and I can play single player with all my content and join vanilla servers.

@toesmokin This process still works with the 2022 UI. The MAS2 tool is still installed with the game, have a look in your rFactor 2/Support/tools folder for "MAS2_x64.exe"

New UI (Jan 27 2022) has the Restart Race and Restart Warmup greyed out. The only option is to Restart Weekend after a multiplayer race starts. Despite editing the multiplayer.json file to allow for 25 restarts....

how do you set this up with the new UI?

@CaBs.

You can find the MAS tool in your steam rfactor 2 directory ( This is where it is located for me: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Support\Tools ).

In that directory you will open MAS2 or MAS2_x64, probably depending on your OS.

The rest of the tutorial is exactly the same.
