7z EXE: https://mega.nz/#!bEVWxB7R!idNk-YA_PKU589Lqm7pt5HkDOEYrS76TcEj4tYcVluo

7z MD5 : 251B8CE568E1C5D70E788FBDFDE6872F
EXE MD5: 386718D0536C16E2C631130A053720DD

If you have an older version, you should be able to get this fully updated just by copying over the old version.

There may be some spelling errors or text that don't fit in the dialogue box. If you find any problems, report them here or in the forums.
Installation instructions
Extract the contents of the file to where you installed Neptunia Re;Birth 2 like "Steam\SteamApps\common\Neptunia Re;Birth2\"

To play with the new subtitles, simply click on kitserver.exe and it will load the game. When you reach the title screen, if you see the 'Sisters Generation' subtitle replaced with 'Retranslation', then you are good to go!

Keep in mind that if you have other custom files such as textures (Clothes for example) inside Kitfolder, they will show up.

This translation will not impact your standard Re;Birth 2 game at all, in fact it is applied on top of the default game much like a post-Morrowind Bethesda game mod. To play the original release with the old subtitles, start the game using NeptuniaReBirth2.exe.

There may be some errors such as spelling errors or text going beyond the box during cutscenes. If you find any problems, please report them.

Don't bother using English voices as they will not sync with the retranslation.

Have fun!

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: “What are you trying to do with this patch/modification?”
A: “Essentially to get the English script as close to the original Japanese script as is practicably possible, also keeping in mind technical limitations and whatever scripting we have available to us.”

Q: “How long did it take you to make this?”
A: “About a month's prep, plus another month actually translating. And a few weeks beforehand bouncing around the prospects. So somewhere between 2 to 3 months (no Histy jokes!). Plus all the time maintaining it afterwards...”

Q: “How many people worked on this?”
A: “Pretty much everyone who's listed as an author here, plus a couple others.”

Q: “Are you trying to remove the humor?”
A: “No. In fact in many ways the original script is funnier than what ended up in the official localization...”

Q: “Can I still get achievements using this?”
A: “Yes.”

Q: “So now that you've all deep dived into both the English and Japanese scripts, was R;B2's translation really that bad?”
A: “It was pretty bad. Neptune and Ram's...creative reinterpretations have been fairly well documented by the Neptunia community, but they are by no means the only characters who got knifed by the official translation.

Off the top of my head, IF, Compa, Linda, CFW Magic, Nepgear, Rom, Blanc, even Kei of all people had at least one line that was mangled beyond recognition. In fact some of the above had several spectacular failures. Given that's pretty much half the speaking cast, that's a real problem.”

Q: “But I like meme humor...”
A: “If it gets in the way of the original humor and character personalities, it's gotta go. You can always run the original EXE as opposed to the one that comes with this patch if it's too traumatic.”

Q: “Are you going to re-translate Re;Birth 3?”
A: “Yes.”

Q: “There's something wrong here (like a mis-spelt word, or an incomplete/incorrectly translated line...)”
A: “Give us a heads up about it, it might not get fixed if we don't know about it.”

We choose "Yes" instead of "Right" because it makes him come off as slightly more arrogant, if I recall. Personally, I think "yes" fits better, both the actual situation, and the scene it is a direct reference to.

@VATrevelyan
Hello, I was reading the screenshots posted as comparisons above, and in the third one (the one with the CPU Breaker box) the after dialog says "You won't mind if I defeat them, yes?" wouldn't be better to use right instead of yes? But probably it was already discussed.

needed 4 playthroughs to realize the lan castle in all the guides was the gathering castle

@Feoh: No problem. We are certainly still working on it.

Also going to throw out there that v1.41 might be incoming soon. No changes to the script at all (not even suggested fixes mentioned on this very page), but I'm testing a little thing that may allow you to throw Kitserver in the Recycle Bin and run this straight from the stock executable.

If it works here alright, as it appears to be doing for me so far, then will it for sure will be included in the next Retranslation as well.

@VATrevelyan Thanks for the information about recent games and thanks a lot for your work!

Hope to be playing R;B3 soon *wink wink nudge nudge*

@Feoh: The official translation for R;B3 so far seems to be far less spotty for most of the characters than this game. However Neptune does receive the brunt of the trouble there so perhaps you were personally correct in holding off for a bit if her treatment was a concern.

At least past that, every Neptunia game in the last year or so has had a lot more effort put into the translation with new people working on it, largely based off the feedback from this game in particular but also R;B3.

The sequel to R;B3 (and by extension the old Victory game), Neptunia VII, seems to be rather solid from everything I have heard and the same people can be credited for the Blanc zombie side game as well.

I think you need a good balance between literal translation and creative writting to localise aspects that would be lost is required to get good quality translations...the problem I (and many others have) is that we feel they went way too far into creative writting to the point where we feel the main character of the series' persona (Neptune) has been butchered...To the point I dread playing the RB3 without the patch because if she's like in RB2 it will make me completely give up on the series entirely as she's the MC again there.

Wether our feelings are justified or not, this patch (tho not perfect) offers an alternative to people who much prefer a bit of loss in literal translation than a character whose persona is changed by translation.
Feoh 20 Apr @ 4:13pm
@TatoBa I'm far from fluent in japanese, I still understand a significant part of what is said but I admit a lot of nuances are lost on me. And thus I still rely on the translation to fully understand.

Still my impression of neptune from RB1's audio and official translation is that she's goofy. But the official translation of RB2 makes me feel like Neptune is a full on retard and a parody of herself...I actually searched for such a patch after I finished RB2 for the first time (normal ending) because I felt that way...before that point I had no idea there was a controversy about her translation so, if anything, I feel like my opinion isn't clouded by the controversy.
PuToTyra 20 Apr @ 1:25pm
I know japanese well enough to know what they are actually saying....its no problem for me...the translation tried to capture some things that would be lost in literal translation you are proposing...
ImmaNovice 20 Apr @ 9:18am
@Plutia Neptune never refers to Nepgear as "Nep Jr." in the original. The English localizations made Neptune more obnoxious and less intelligent when she already is in the original.
