HeroQuest - Base Game and Expansions

All assets are owned by Milton Bradley and Games Workshop. If you enjoy the game, please support the official release.

  • Players: 2 - 5
  • Designer: Stephen Baker
  • Publisher: Milton Bradley / Games Workshop
  • Year Published: 1989

From BoardGameGeek[]:
HeroQuest is Milton Bradley's approach to a Dungeons & Dragons-style adventure game. One player acts as game master, revealing the maze-like dungeon piecemeal as the players wander. Up to four other players take on a character (wizard, elf, dwarf, or barbarian) and venture forth into dungeons on fantasy quests. Plastic miniatures and 3-D furniture make this game very approachable. Expansions were also released for this system.

The HeroQuest series consists of the main game and a number of expansions.

This game was made in cooperation with Games Workshop who designed the miniatures and helped in many of the production details including background world and art in the rule book and scenario book.

UPDATE: The mod is being updated and while I work on it I will be updating this description. I apologize if anything listed here does not match up for now.

NOTE: Please see the change notes for updates.

Thanks and Contributions
This is a combination of several HeroQuest mods to give players all the resources needed to start playing the 1980 board game HeroQuest. Over time I've added my own resources, but I plan to keep the original mods linked that have helped in the creation of this mod. Many thanks to everyone in the HeroQuest community for keeping the game going strong.

Rules and maps for HeroQuest are available here:

If you'd like to see heroquest in action and get a feel for how it plays, I have a playlist here:
List of mods in use (if I miss any please let me know)

HeroQuest (NA Version) by Karmond was the base used for this mod. Most of the individual components have been replaced at this point, but it was still the springboard. Other figures come from the following mods:

I'd love to give proper credit to the creators of any of my assets used, please let me know if you are the original creator so I can update the description.

Enjoy and please feel free to leave feedback, comments, and suggestions.

Suggested Quest Order:
If you plan to combine all the expansions from both US and UK (and maybe mix in some more for story) here's a suggested order from the YeOldeInn forums:
"The Maze"
The Main Game System (starting w/ "The Trial")
Kellar's Keep
Return of the Witch Lord
"Plague of Zombies"
Against the Ogre Horde
"Inn of Chaos"
Wizards of Zargon
"A Growl of Thunder"
"Running the Gauntlet"
BQP: The Frozen Horror
"Revenge of the Weather-Man"
EQP: Mage in the Mirror
Dark Company
"The Halls of Durrag-Dol"
"The Eyes of Chaos"

The Agin's Inn Contestant Quests
Return of the Witch Queen
Eve of Chaos
Vengeance for Vengeance

Probably more of drathe's Quests
Then, Nicodemus' Quests.

The models aren't mine, so there's a chance they broke by someone else's change. At this point there's a really good mod that's still being worked on that's got all the bell and whistles, so I'll probably not be updating this one anymore. Try the mod here:

This is broken for me with the models for the characters, they fail to load from some drop box account sadly.

Will there be 3D figurines in the future, like with the board game?
Used to play this quite a lot with my brother and nephew back in the day. Was great fun! :)

Great, thanks! Played this game a lot, many many years ago. Now about to relive it digitally with the same friend, spread across the land.

Game has been updated, I still have more changes to make, but didn't want to keep delaying it.

@ Vyc, Thanks. I've got other updates coming, it's just been slow due to work and personal health issues. I'm moving things around and going to try and add more of the expansions. There's a brand new HQ mod put on the workshop getting a lot of attention at the moment which makes my drive to update even higher :)

My only issue is I have problems getting the doors out of the bag. Sometimes takes me a dozen tries to do anything other than drawing a box to highlight, or make a closed hand and drag nothing.

Other than that, out of all the HeroQuest boards and games I've seen, I'm liking yours the most, and having Kellar's Keep and Return of the Witch Lord is a big plus! Haven't tried the Ogre Horde yet, didn't even know it existed.

I figured this out after doing more research. Thanks for the reply :steamhappy:
