It's Free
Let's Play 12hrs!
Release date: Oct 31st
12hrs is a free text-based game where you survive the night. You are a homeless woman and you sleep during the day in the student union. At seven in the evening it closes, and you are left to keep yourself out of jail and alive until seven in the morning. You can try an early version of the game here for free:

Spange, wander, and befriend a dog. Marvel at "defensive architecture" and pay for value menu items in coins from a cup. Visit areas multiple times to feel time inch along. Try not to get stabbed. Pet a cat.

12hrs was made for the game jam Little Bytes and is a free game meant to generate empathy for the experience of homeless people. We suggest a donation to Food Not Bombs if the game moves you at all, but if you cannot afford to pay for the game we still very much want you to be able to play it, which is why it is free.

If you have ever found yourself thinking mean thoughts about homeless people, this game might be for you. It's important to put ourselves in the shoes of others and understand their experience.

-Made in Twine with the help of Caelyn Sandel
-Art and story by Kiva Bay, an actual once-homeless woman (!)
-Music by Maddy Myers made for the indiedev resource Asset Basket.

Thanks for greenlighting us!

So there WILL be a 2.0 release of 12hrs on Halloween... on We'd like to take a little more time to implement some more complicated mechanics into the begging system, and Caelyn and I both have other projects we're deep in. Thanks for your patience!

Oh my gosh, we're Greenlit! THANK YOU, EVERYBODY!!! Kiva and I will put our noses to the grindstone and get this game all spit-shined and functional for all of you. Your support is invaluable <3

Not at all a fan of text-based games, I must admit, but it didn't stop me from gameovering several times. The narrative is gripping, and the situations unnerving. Kudos on making this!

Would be glad to see a more complex begging system when it comes, meaner cashiers are a nice touch as well, I was always relieved and a bit surprised when they did thank me after fiddling with change for minutes (I don't grok quarters, dimes, etc D:).

For further polishing, I liked mpless's suggestions below: a clock or other ways to measure progress, and maybe achievements if they don't break the crushing atmosphere.

Haha yeah right, I'll stay far away from anything you people can use as a weapon.
