Failure is a rule-bending RTS that redefines the foundations of the genre. Combining elements of RTS, Card Battle Games and God games all set within a neon filled digital cyberspace world called the NeuroNet.

Failure puts the you in the shoes of a Slicer, a new form of hacker skilled in penetrating VR Networks. You choose a faction, each with it’s own motivation to control the NeuroNet and the data within. You’ll battle against Slicers from other factions and the NeuroNet's AI in a struggle for domination.

You must manipulate the NeuroNet with your Library of Scripts. Summon into existence Constructs; buildings formed from the fabric of the network each with their own unit type, and use Functions; Scripts that affect the very nature of the world and allow for the manipulation of the behaviors of your units. As you progress and become more powerful you will uncover the secrets held deep within the virtual network.

Timing and careful placement of your Scripts along with quick reflexes are crucial if you are to succeed against other Slicers and ultimately discover the secrets held deep within the vast network.

You must prepare; build your Script Library, plan your strategy and maintain control of the NeuroNet's sectors by battling against other Factions.

Each Faction wants the NeuroNet for it’s own reasons, However, they are not your only opposition.

The following list contains our overall plan for Failure:
  • Persistent Narrative Driven Online Multiplayer and Singleplayer

  • 18+ Function (Player ability) types allowing you to manipulate the levels in interesting ways
  • Unique upgrade system for Functions that takes ideas from card collecting games and deeply expands on it with the Compiler system
  • Faction / Corporation Warfare system - An ever changing landscape within the NeuroNet bringing new challenges and rewards to players
  • Puzzle based Single player levels to test your tactical and logical prowess
  • Co-operative play and Boss battles!
  • Built in tournament matchmaking system for highly competitive games

The game is currently in Pre-Alpha and has the following features implemented:
  • Competitive Online Multiplayer
  • Single Player challenge maps
  • Script loadout selection allowing for tactical variation (8 Functions and 5 Constructs)
  • Multiple levels of varying size set within different sectors of the NeuroNet

Features being worked on over the next few months:
  • Player Progression Systems
  • The DarkNet - a hub for trading assets.
  • The Compiler - a tool for creating and customising Scripts.
  • Co-operative game modes.

  • Narrative Driven Multiplayer/Single player campaign for each Faction.

  • Level editor and community sharing.
  • Player personalisation.



As you work your way through the NeuroNet you earn credits, paid to you by your corporation. With these you can purchase randomised packs of code fragments and script modifications in the DarkNet, the black market of the NeuroNet, allowing you to build and customise new Scripts.

Multiple game modes will eventually be available and a constant struggle between the corporations for control of the NeuroNet will keep you on your toes as you battle for supremacy.

The AI that protects the NeuroNet won’t let itself be taken over easily so you must join together in co-operative play in order to hold back the NeuroNet in various game modes such as BruteForce and Firewall.



Development began in November 2014 when Milcho created a custom engine and began prototyping the basic concept for the game in 2D using a grid system. After a month of testing the original version development moved over to Unity and we shifted the perspective of the game to 3D with a hex cell system that allowed more complex unit movement.

Originally designed as a single player puzzle based RTS experience we soon realised how much fun the game would be playing against other players. Development shifted to multiplayer and the creation of a persistent narrative driven online game where the player could influence not only the outcome of individual matches but a wider meta game, Corporation Warfare.

With this in mind we expanded on the original concept of the Script library building and came up with the Compiler - a device to allow players to combine code fragments with mods to create new variations of Constructs (buildings) and greatly expand on the Functions (player's hacking abilities).

We are now in the process of building these systems into the game as well as additional ideas for new scripts, bosses and unit types. We are planning a Kickstarter campaign to launch in the next few months and hope for a late Q1 Early Access release.



Why should you help us?
We aim to create a well polished game that’s both fun and innovative, we won’t stop until this is accomplished. We're not just developers, we’re gamers too, and we won’t be content with a half-baked product that doesn’t live up to what we've described above. We've worked on the game for a year, part-time while working full time jobs, we wouldn’t have got this far if we weren't passionate about this game and we plan to work on it until it's released and beyond with regular content updates and potentially new features.

Can I play the game in single player if I dont want to go online?
The plan is to create an experience that can be enjoyed both on and offline. However, to enjoy the game to its fullest it is recommended that you have an online connection as some features such as the Faction Warfare system will not function without it - you can still enjoy the story for your chosen corporation while offline.
