VOX - Complete Vocalizer

Complete vocalizer & in-game character switcher

  1. Subscribe, launch L4D2 and let your addons load

  2. Open Addons and disable conflicting mods
You can re-enable conflicting mods after step 3 (except other vocalizers)

  3. Open Options > Keyboard/Mouse > Edit Keys/Buttons
Then scroll to the bottom and bind the radial menus to the keys you want

  4. In game, select your character in the Characters & Idle radial menu
Once your character is selected the other menus will be enabled

  • Common Menus
    (Z) Orders
    (X) Answers
    (C) Warnings
    (V) Help
    (B) Panic

  • Specific Menus
    (N) Specific lines 1
    (M) Specific lines 2
    (J) Specific lines 3

  • Main Menu
    (G) Characters & Idle

  • Load your character's radial menus
Select your character in the Characters radial menu to activate the other menus

  • Make your character talk
Select a voice line in the radial menus, everyone on the server will hear it

  • Go idle
Select IDLE in the Characters radial menu to take a break

  • Switch to another character
First go idle, then select the character you want in the Characters radial menu. Make sure the character you want is available before selecting it, or you will get stuck spectating

  • Nothing happens when I press my keys
    Try the solutions listed here:

    • Select your character in the Characters radial menu to activate the other menus

    • If the Characters menu doesn't show up, try binding it to another key

    • If your keybindings aren't saved, set them up directly in your console:
      bind z "+m1; alias -m1 -mouse_menu"
      bind x "+m2; alias -m2 -mouse_menu"
      bind c "+m3; alias -m3 -mouse_menu"
      bind v "+m4; alias -m4 -mouse_menu"
      bind b "+m5; alias -m5 -mouse_menu"
      bind n "+m6; alias -m6 -mouse_menu"
      bind m "+m7; alias -m7 -mouse_menu"
      bind j "+m8; alias -m8 -mouse_menu"
      bind g "+mouse_menu 0"

    • You can force your game to bind the menus on startup, with this autoexec.cfg in your config folder (Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\cfg)
Make sure you save it as cfg and not txt (Windows & Mac tutorial[www.wikihow.com])

    • If none of the above works, try reinstalling from scratch:
      1. Unsubscribe
      2. Quit L4D2 and Steam
      3. Remove the VOX vpk (410726312.vpk) in your workshop folder, by default at:
      Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\addons\workshop\
      4. Make sure you don't have any other leftover vocalizer in your addons folder, at:
      Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\addons\
      5. Follow the installation instructions again

  • Why do I have to select my character to activate the other menus?
The vocalize menus are dynamic. Every time you select a voice line, an other one
is loaded in its place for the next use. That's a trick I implemented to pack more voice lines
in each menu. And that's why you have to activate the menus; selecting your character
will load the first voice lines

  • Can you add charger, jockey, and spitter callouts?
There is no vocalize command for these

  • Can you fix the "clear" and "heal me" lines for L4D2 characters?
There are no recorded lines for them

  • Can you add Keith stories/other voice lines?
The game has talker files that define rules for conversations (in what situations they happen)
Most lines can’t be voiced at will

  • Why don’t you just change the talker files?
I could, but these changes would only work if you host the game
You can find modified talker files on gamemaps

  • Can I use this with your third person mod?
    Yes, follow the installation instructions

  • Do other people hear this?
Yes, everyone on the server will hear your character, even if they haven't subscribed

  • Can I use your vocalizer to make my own?
Yes, you can use this mod as a foundation for your own vocalizer. If you do so, give me credit by linking VOX in your workshop description. Do not use VOX as your mod name

This mod is great but it makes my game crash every so often when I use it. Any ideas?

zoey's death scream is so good

Also, for me on friends only/multiplayer works like that: If I'm for example Nick, I hit Vox binded key and select Nick. Then this vocalizer works and everything can be choosen to say properly.

Best for Zoey is to SPAM "Game Over". I always laugh so hard at that lol
this one doesn't work for me, only ion's vocalizer does

This works when I don't use the "Improved Bots" add-ons. Which sucks because it's my fav add-on.
