Currency, Coin, and Economy Revamp

Description
This mod attempts to create a larger system of currency, and makes the barter system less drastic, which will allow players with high speech skill to buy and sell at a much more profitable rate. 4 new coins have been introduced. The lowest coin is the copper septim worth an absolute value of 1, then there are the dwemer, silver and gold coins. These higher coins are subject to the barter system but because the system is not as extreme you can actually buy more with them if you have good bartering skill.

Diclaimer: IF YOU HAVE A MOD THAT ALLOWS YOU TO SMELT SEPTIMS FROM OR TO GOLD BARS, PLEASE DON'T USE IT WITH THIS!! IT DOESN'T WORK RIGHT AND WILL IMBALANCE YOUR GAME!!

ALWAYS QUICKSAVE YOUR GAME BEFORE EXCHANGING LARGE AMOUNTS OF GOLD OR SILVER COINS.. THERE IS A HARCODED BUG WHEN YOU REACH THE HIGH LIMIT OF SEPTIM VALUE FOR A SINGLE TRANSACTION. To fix this end the transaction after 100 gold coins or more, rezone and open up another transaction with a refreshed zone.

Have you ever heard a bandit say "He won't get one rusty septim from me!"? Well gold doesn't rust, so obviously the coin system that came with the game is messed up, even the bandits know it!! HAHA!

Have you ever went into a dungeon and felt really depressed when you only ever found a few coins in the jars? Well with this mod you have a low chance of finding gold, silver and dwemer coins as loot. You can then use them as currency at vendors.

Gold and silver bars are worth more, but also take more ore to create.

The transmute gold ore books have been removed from the game to create balance. I have not taken the spell out, so if you have it you can use it but I seriously think it's a dumb spell and seriously imbalances the game. So please don't use it with this mod.

Some of the bugged gold ore mines in the world have been fixed.

In order to mint new coins you must take the Coin minting perks which take 50-75-100 smithing skill.

Dragons will have the highest chance to drop gold and silver coins, but the coins are scattered randomly in the world and you never know when you might find them.

If you want to change your bottom bar to read as "Septims" and not "gold" you can Copy this "Translate_ENGLISH" file from my google drive and put the file into your C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Skyrim\Data\Interface\

That's it for now, let me know if there are any bugs.

Everything in this mod is mine, except the Dwemer coins and the pearl necklace. The Dwemer coins were made by InsanitySorrow, not sure who made the pearl necklace. I hope you like it.

Large Update! May 31, 2015

4 new money changers are available in Whiterun, Solitude, Windhelm, and Markarth. They will buy and sell coins, gems, and Ingots.

2 new Perks are available in the Speechcraft tree. The first level of "Money Changer Discount " is available without any skill in speechcraft and gives a 25% discount, the second level of the perk gives a 50% discount and requires 25 skill in speechcraft. When you get the second level you basically get coin exchanges at the absolute value of the coins.

Coins now weigh 1 pound for every 1000 coins you have. So make sure to exchange your regular septims whenever you can to lower the weight in your bags. Honestly I felt that 1 pound for every 100 coins was more realistic, but I choose to go with the less troublesome number.

Pro tip: I have found some load order compatability problems.. If you have a mod that changes the weight of objects in the game, such as "Lighter Supplies Materials ETC" or "Weightless Gems" please load that higher than my mods as my mods have extensive reworking of the same items. Thanks.

Also, not sure if this is the mod making the merchants have thousands of septims easily available (one of my mods significantly raised how much they can buy from me from the start of the game on), but I used to find it quite immersive that a little town merchant like in Riverwood had, say, only 750 gold with which to buy my loot. I'd have to journey to a bigger city to sell the more expensive items, which was a pain but made things feel more real.

But now that I've modded up, the money has changed, and he's got like 7000 gold instead, so I can sell off all the stuff I brought and he'll still have a few thousand left over. It lacks that "small villages are poor" kinda feel I had been enjoying.

If I could tweak the overall percentage, or the per-type-of-town percentages (e.g. towns at 0.8, villages at 0.4, cities at 1.2, capitals at 1.8 or whatever), I think it'd feel more realistic about how easily I could sell my loot at various places.

Is there an option to change the weight of money? I've found it not impacting me as much as I'd actually like, so I wind up with thousands of coins without really "feeling" it, and thus have less incentive to keep exchanging coins. I actually like the idea of 100 gold coins weighing a pound, and I might toy around with heavier weights. Someone actually made a video going over how many coins is reasonable for an adventurer to carry, and it's a lot less than one might think! Hence why a mod like this makes sense.

Thanks for making this mod, though! It's quite interesting to find unusual coins as I go.

gold bars are worth 1000 septims each obviously, the spell was crap to begin with anyways.

I don't remember how I did it, but I know I did not make a skin for stacks of coins, you could physically stack them on top of each other if you wanted with the grab key.
ChuChu Aug 2, 2019 @ 12:16am
