Progress report #2
  • Racing
  • Capture points
  • A game mode where everyone is given the exact same mods, then pitted against each other with their creations
  • Deathmatch/Team Deathmatch where you can bring any mods you got in single player, no matter how powerful
  • Balanced Deathmatch, where you can bring your own mods, but STACKgen rebalances them so everyone is on an even playing field
  • So far the most fun pvp mode seems to be racing, which surprised me. There is so much potential for new game modes that I really can't wait to discover them all.

Prototype PVP map

Last time, I mentioned working on a new addition to the game. This is the ability to get legendary mods, which are really powerful mods that can do things normal mods can't. They are meant to be a long term goal for the end game so they are pretty tough to get, but well worth it.

Description card of a legendary mod

Each hero can unlock his own unique legendary mod, but unlocking the mod as one hero will grant that mod to all your other characters too. It's kind of like how some games let you play through again with all your OP stuff unlocked in a new save. Of course, legendary mods stack so if you get more than one you can make even crazier guns than usual.

Progress report #1
Description
In Stack Gun Heroes you defend a portal against hordes of infected robots trying to get off world. You'll design guns, slide up walls, level up your superpower, and earn the love of countless adoring fans in a universe teeming with robotic life.

Key features:
  • 1-4 player co-op FPS.
  • Gun improvisation.
  • Millions of superpowers.
  • Survive waves of enemies for credits. Invest credits into new mods and powers.
  • Skillful walljumping and wallsliding.
  • Online co-op, offline single player.
  • The STACKgen AI designs the game as you go.
  • No max difficulty.

Stackable Guns:
You can stack mods on your gun to change the bullets it shoots.

Stacking is deep. Combine any mods you want for unique effects.

E.G. Orbital Strike + Turret calls down turrets from orbit.

It even lets you stack dozens of mods at once to make an unbelievably awesome superweapon.

Randomly Generated Superpowers:
Ultranox trades superpowers from his humble shop.

Some powers I have seen:
  • The power to swing from walls and ceilings with stretchy ropes.
  • Every few seconds, slightly boost your speed. The boosts add up. Keep it going long enough and you run like superman.
  • Summon a tiny ball. A giant robot friend rampages for as long as you can keep the ball alive.
  • My friend found a power that let him call a HUGE bomb from the sun, obliterating everything. (and sometimes himself)

Every day his selection changes. You will never see the exact same power twice.

Your power lets you contribute to your team in a way that no one else in the world can. Choose your power carefully, because you can only wield one.

World Building with STACKgen
Everything you see in Stack Gun Heroes is designed on the fly by STACKgen, an advanced procedural generation AI. STACKgen understands design principles like game balance and pacing, and it uses complicated math to ensure your mods, powers, and enemies are both varied and balanced.

Architecture
Like in Star Trek, each alien race has it's own technology and visual style.

STACKgen designed buildings on planet Uc with complicated pathways and one open side. They use a complementary colorscheme of teal and orange.

Adsprisplain architecture has a radically different look:

You can stack with this in mind. Would an orbital strike gun work well on Adsprisplai because they don't use pesky ceilings? It's up to you to see what works.

Enemies
You'll have to deal with the unique weapons and fighting styles STACKgen designs for each enemy. For example, some enemies have directional shields, some can fly, and all of them have uniquely stacked guns.

From left to right, a level 3, 10, and 20 enemy.

As you progress, these enemies get more and more difficult. The game never runs out of ways to make enemies harder, so you can always find a challenge. I cannot predict how far players will be able to get using their creativity, Stack Gun, and superpower.

Releasing this game is the only way to find out.

Still TBA, but don't worry, I work on it every day. I'll probably be posting another announcement pretty soon that will bring everyone up to speed on the progress I have made since Greenlight. I added a bunch of things since then.

Is there a release date or is it still TBA?

I'm glad there's going to be Linux support. It would be nice if this entry reflected it, since PC tends to equate to Windows-only support. But thank you for supporting Linux in the current alphas of this game.

So far the subreddit is the most up-to-date on weapons/features if you're after info: www.reddit.com/r/StackGunHeroes

For playable stuff, there is an alpha, but the spots are limited. I'm sometimes able to recruit active members of the subreddit into the alpha though!

How about like a demo, weapon tester, new weapons etc? Fangin' for a game like this.

I haven't settled on a release date yet, mostly because I really want this game to be complete on release and leaving that open gives me more flexibility to add/polish necessary stuff.

For example, I decided very recently to add PVP (deathmatch, parkour race, etc.) to the game based on tester feedback. These things make it hard to predict, but a very very tentative guess for release might be sometime mid 2016.
