How do spells work in the game?
Spells are created via a drag and drop interface in the game's menu. Each spell is saved to its own file in a human-readable format. So if you want to get really geeky, you could write your spells in a text editor. A spell is made up of a variety of runes which perform different actions, and cost different amounts of mana to cast. More powerful spells are more costly, therefore, and Grizwald's mana capacity is upgraded throughout the game.

Is this a game for programmers?
Nope. Don't get me wrong. If you're a programmer, you're still allowed to play it. You'd probably even do pretty well. But this is a game designed to empower the player. It does not require preexisting programming skills. It also won't teach you to program. The spells are created using a wide variety of runes that are highly abstracted from the actual code.

How can I help?
Get the word out! Let your friends know to vote for us on Greenlight and, more importantly, go ahead and follow this game so you'll know when the Kickstarter campaign is launched.

I have a great idea for a rune/spell. Can I get it in the game?
I also have a lot of ideas. I'm always open to suggestions, but I can't guarantee that it will be added. That being said, one of the reward tiers in my upcoming kickstarter campaign will allow you to design your own rune. Follow this game to be notified when our kickstarter launches.

The spells and locations didn't seem to have a lot of variety. Should I be concerned?
Lore Arcana is still very early in development, which means there's still a lot to be added. Rest assured, the game will have multiple locations and a great variety of runes. Currently there are about 100 runes in the code, of which only 32 are implemented in the UI. I expect there will be upwards of 500 runes as of release, and more to be added afterwards.

So I get to do more than push chairs into ponds?
Yes. In hindsight, that was a rather underwhelming demonstration for the trailer, but if you watch carefully, it's actually the same spell that was created in the UI. It took only one line to write. Also, keep in mind that the footage shown is for a game very early in development. If nothing else, there will be particle effects to add some pizzazz to the actions.

What modes will be in the game?
Lore Arcana's primary mode is an adventure mode, which emphasizes problem solving and, to a lesser extent, combat. There is a secondary sandbox mode set in the same world, in which the wizard Grizwald is given infinite mana, and there are fewer NPCs.

What about multiplayer?
Short answer: probably.
Long answer: In a few weeks, Lore Arcana will be on kickstarter, and multiplayer will be considered a stretch goal. If I don't meet that goal, I will have to take a lot more time implementing it as a feature. But I'll probably do it anyways.

Okay. So how would multiplayer work?
There are several concepts for multiplayer modes in the works right now. One would be a server-based version of sandbox mode. Another is a wizard's duel, in which two players face off with no more than ten spells. They build mana capacity throughout the duel so that they can cast their more powerful spells.

Will there be voice acting?
Did you see the trailer? That was me, and voice acting clearly isn't my forte. I'll add it to the game as a stretch goal, but dialogue will most likely be delivered via text box.

What languages will be supported?
I would love to support as many as possible, and the dialogue system is being designed with that approach in mind. However, I'll need translators before I can add any language other than English. I am also picky about grammar in games, so I need to be sure I can trust the translator's skills. Please note, I am unable to proofread languages I cannot speak. However, if there's a particularly high demand for more languages, I could also do the "poor man's localization," Google Translate.

Where can I go for more information?
This is a good place for now. Also, I've got a website up for the game (, or you can follow @LoreArcana on Twitter or find it on IndieDB.

Will Lore Arcana support Steam feature X?
I will definitely be adding steam cloud save, playing cards, and achievements.

Who did the music in the trailer?
That would be Matt Cooper. You can find more of his work on his Youtube channel.

Release date: Late 2015
Lore Arcana is an open-world adventure game in which the players are empowered to create their own spells.

Take control of the wizard Grizwald on his mission to save the kindom of Brialta. Program spells through an easy point-and-click interface. Solve the problems of Brialta's citizens and defeat a mighty force of evil.

An unlimited number of spells can be created in the game. They are crafted via a series of runes in a manner similar to a programming language. Please note that this game will not teach you how to program, nor do you have to be a programmer to enjoy it.

DREAM. COME. TRUE. As a note, the standard stuff is nessary but it is the crazy combos like spawing chickens or summoning aliens or farts that make snakes turn into dragons, It will be spells that no one else has or uses in their games that will make this a clincher. That I think will be the main determing factor as to wether or not this game is good or great.
