Demo version has been released!
Thanks from the SFA team!
Release date: Spring 2015

An Alpha Demo of Star Fleet Armada was released on August 27th, 2014 at our website and is available for anyone to play. There is no better way to find out if you will like the game!

About The Game

SFA is a Space exploration game much like the ever popular 1992 Star Control II game. But with SFA you can play as one of 40+ races, each race having their own ship which has a unique primary weapon and secondary ability. You interact with up to 25 different races during a game trying to get them to become your allies in a war against one primary enemy. While the game is fashioned after the popular 90's game Star Control II, there is much more playability and no two games are ever alike. You control how large or small the galaxy is. You control which race you play as. You control which race is your primary enemy that must be destroyed to win.

You will spend much of your time exploring hundreds of planets collecting metals, gases and fuel. If you are lucky you will find an energy signature. Exploring these are very essential to finding your way to victory. Gas planets are a great source of research units (RU's). These are spent to learn technologies. There are over 100 techs to discover and several bonus techs that you will get as a reward for finding RU's.

There are many useful artifacts that can be found. One such artifact is a Planet Lander Radar. Once you obtain this, it will point your planet lander in the direction of resources and energy signatures while exploring the surface of the planet. Another artifact is the Home Jump Drive Enhancer. It will always place you next to your Home World after being used instead of just being transported to a random location in your star system.

Unlike SCII, SFA actually has a technology tree. There are 4 types of technolgies to discover. Planet lander, fleet, ship and commerce. There are over 100 techs to discover not counting the 6 bonus techs that you can learn by continuing to gather RU's. The entire tech tree can be viewed from the website.

Diplomacy is also a huge part of the game. Each race has a starting reputation with you and the other races. As you complete missions for a race this will effect your reputation with the other races as well. This could be good or bad!

The game will also have available in a future release in game content editors. They are: Planet Editor, Race Editor, Ship Editor, Weapon Editor, Mission Editor, Dialogue Editor and a mission editor. The editors are built into the game and you can create new content and immediately start using it without ever leaving the game!

The bottom line is...if you like games like Star Control II and Starflight then you will love this game!

A huge work has been done here. Its really good for an alpha from gameplay experience. I don't mind it being in some part SC/Starflight clone, some things will never get old. And nice to see the old ideas expanded with reseach and trade. Just be sure to not expand too much and do a feature-cut if necesary.
As for all commenting here: Gyus, this is alpha! The UI should be a huge work in the end of the project, first you need something playable to see if it will connect at all. Gameplay first, nice colors - next. I'm sure once all ideas will settle and alpha will be approaching beta, the designer will step in and do some work on UI, may be even an outsider. So quit whining about UI at last.

The UI looks really bad. Maybe some sleek design with metallic colors? I was exactly looking for such game but unfortunately UI is too messy at the point.

Hope it does get better. I'll follow this project for sure.

Holy programmer art. The concept seems promising, but it's just too unattractive at this point...

Did tutorial, now starting my own game. You have a lot work ahead of you, but it looks promising. But I hope that it will not be expensive. Couple euros at most. Colours in the buy/sell resources section, sometimes make text barely readable.
