!!ATTENTION!! This game is still a work-in-progress

Titanium Frontier begins with classic vertical shoot-em-up gameplay. Something like Space Invaders, or Ikaruga, or the indie game, Jamestown. You shoot the baddies with a gun that fires in a fan-shaped pattern and you dodge an irresponsible number of bullets.

On top of this, we're mixing in some elements from strategy games - your health bar is also the main form of currency, and it can be used to various ends, like buying defensive turrets, using special weapons, and spawning minions to attack other players.

Narrative / Campaign

The primary gameplay is presented in two main ways. The first is a solo/co-op campaign with a goal of delivering a rich narrative without relying on a mountain of dialogue. After all, this is a shooter, and some audience members will only be in it for the shootin'.

Now, unfortunately, we can't go into specifics about the story mode. It's the biggest part of the game that isn't already built, and we don't want to say too much about something that isn't tangible yet. We've had a good track record with in-game narratives so far, though:

"...melancholy and oddly affecting. Piilonen is a damn fine storyteller"
- DiscoverGames (review of Fisher-Diver)

"You Find Yourself In A Room takes you on a strange trip that stretches the confines of most text adventures"
- JayIsGames

"The Company of Myself and Fixation, along with Silent Hill 2 and Spec Ops: The Line offer a look into our own psyche to tell a story that is both compelling and indicative."
- A dashing redditor named awchern

Local Multiplayer / Custom Games

Co-op is fun and all, but sometimes you need some competition, so Titanium Frontier includes a ton of ways for you to play with or against your friends. Some game types involve two teams in a dodgeball-style setup, earning money to spend on waves of enemies that fight the other team. Other game modes put all the players on the same side of the field. Now, do note that this is all local multiplayer.

But wait, it's 2014 - you have to have an online component in your game, and ours comes in the form of sharing usermade game modes. The game includes a custom visual scripting language - the same one we're using to create the objective types and gameplay scenarios for the main singleplayer campaign - which will allow gamers to make up their own new ways to play the game. You could make a game mode with a "tag-you're-it" mechanic, or a mode that makes players invincible whenever they stop shooting, or a mode where dead players are added to the "zombie" team and given special powers. The ultimate goal for this scripting tool is that if it's user-friendly enough, it could help to introduce some more people to the world of programming by giving them a shoot-em-up game as a familiar sandbox to experiment with.

This is where our game needs the Steam platform the most: Steam's Workshop would be an incredible network for sharing this type of content with other players and groups of friends, but we can't have access to it if we aren't on the service!

Too long; didn't read

  • It's an oldschool shoot-em-up...
  • ...but with some elements from strategy games
  • Two choices of entree:
  • -- 1) Solo / Co-op Story Mode
  • -- 2) Custom Games for Local Multiplayer
  • Storylines are important to us, but we can't talk about ours yet
  • Custom games include team-based VS modes
  • Players can write new game modes with a custom visual scripting language...
  • ...then share their new game types over Steam Workshop
