A game for real gamers!
Description
Follow our heroine through video game history as she runs, jumps, and shoots her way through an epic dungeon adventure in Retro Runner: Princess Power!

•20 different levels across 5 eras of gaming, from pixel art to high-res
•Hidden references to over 50 classic games from the past 30 years
•A fully upgradable character and a customizable skill tree
•Potions, weapon upgrades, and lots of other pick-ups
•Epic boss battles!
•A hilarious and immersive storyline

Retro Runner: Princess Power is an irreverent side scrolling adventure that takes gamers on a trip through video game history, while also poking fun at some of the clichés and conventions of video games in general. In Retro Runner: Princess Power, players assume the role of a princess who gets tired of waiting to be rescued and instead breaks herself out of the dungeon in which she has been trapped. Players must then complete five distinct castle levels, each one styled after a different era in console gaming. References to classic games of yesteryear are scattered throughout Retro Runner: Princess Power and the graphics and sound evolve with each subsequent level.

I think the idea is adorable, a sweet tribute to videogames. You also have an endless world of inspiration to create and add nice content for it, so your game never gets outdated.

Neat idea, but it looks a little rough and frankly runners are more suited for mobile than PC.

TRWX, as was already stated earlier, all of the references created were made by the individual artists, who tried to reflect each era's overall design. :)

So you rip sprites from Super Metroid and Oregon Trail? Lol I'm calling Nintendo and MECC.

All these stupid games that should be a free web browser game. This is why Steam is going to shit.

This looks really interesting. Good luck on Greenlight!

This looks quite promising.

It would also be great if each stage not only has a different visual theme, but also a different gameplay theme that is reflective of the same videogame era (e.g finish the level, finish the level while avoiding pursuing enemy NPC, collect x, escort NPC, all-boss level, etc).

Other levels you might want to consider:

Karateka-themed level (one fight after another, complete with fluid pixel animation)
Punch Out! level (man, this'll be funny)
Sonic the Hedgehog level (I'm already grinning imagining the Princess spinning around like crazy)
Final Fight! themed level (Princess picks up random junk lying on the ground and beats up the bad guys)
Rockman level (Princess goes pew-pew!)
