PAX East 2014
Release date: Mid 2014
For years, the humble penguin has been the subject of heartwarming documentaries and the most delicious snack on a polar bear’s menu. There comes a time, however, when even the most peaceful of species decides to take matters into its own hands. Deep in the ice-bound wilderness of Antarctica, a group of upstart penguins have banded together – TO TAKE OVER THE WORD.

PENGUEMIC: Word Domination places the player at the helm of a determined penguin army as they waddle across the world through 10 different regions and break the will of any species that dare oppose them. Each conquest brings new allies and opens up roads to greater challenges. Your flightless friends go from helpless prey into battle-hardened overlords.

Sure, they may become megalomaniac psychopaths bent on ruling the world with an iron wing, but they’re just so darn cuddly!

- A 100 different levels across 10 regions, each with new enemies to battle and allies to unlock!
- A full story-driven Campaign, bonus levels, and endless Challenge stages!
- A unique, ultra-powerful boss character at the end of each region.
- Hilarious cut scenes chronicling the misadventures of your increasingly power-hungry penguins
- A spell that summons a penguin riding a giant pink giraffe that spits rainbows. Seriously, that happens.
- SAT/GMAT/GRE test prep that you’re actually going to enjoy, we swear it’s possible.
- Gamer friendly, teacher approved.
- Translated into many languages!

Penguemic is a unique blend of card battles and base defense. Faced with waves of bizarre foes, ranging from giant poisonous frogs to bloodthirsty camels, the player utilizes various ally summons and spells to lay waste to the enemy.

The catch? Every enemy, ally, and spell in the game represents a vocabulary word pulled directly from the SAT/GMAT/GRE standardized tests. That’s right – this is one game your parents will never tell you to stop playing.

WHOA WHOA WHOA, wait a second! Take your hand off that mouse and stay away from that “Back” button. We know the whole concept of an educational game is about as appealing to the average gamer as a bone marrow transplant, but bear with us. Penguemic offers a unique approach because it puts the gameplay first and foremost – deploying your cards requires strategy and speed.

Enemies will bombard you with special abilities and changing victory conditions will force you to re-evaluate your play patterns constantly. Knowing when to buff your allies with a shield, devastate enemies with a tidal wave, or unleash a powerful ally onto the battlefield at exactly the right moment is critical to keeping your base alive.

You’re gonna be so busy fending off comically threatening creatures you won’t even realize you’re learning 100 difficult test vocabulary words. This ain’t called “Word Domination” for nothing!

Discovered at PAX Prime 2014 today! From what I gleaned today I think this title is worth supporting for the gameplay, art style, humor, and the people at the booth were passionate about all the right things. Looking forward to this not only for myself but also for my ninth grade kid.

Looks like an okay educational game. Could do a little more to keep the kids attention, but I think it definitely accomplishes it's task as an educational game.

Hey @Explojin, thanks for upvoting, and for encouraging educational game devs. It's our first title and as you rightly pointed out it isn't a full game just yet - we're continuing to add gameplay and content which should appeal to an older audience. Hopefully the next trailer will make it look more exciting!

Had the chance to play this at PAX East and found it interesting. I always like to see how people incorporate educational elements into games and I like the general gist of them using SAT Prep words but one has to ask... will a freshman/sophomore in high school play this game? Probably not, but I'll throw my support behind it anyway because I'd really like for this to be a success.

I feel like this is a full game that should really be a final level. Maybe using easier words to begin and then gradually working up to the SAT set would work better. Obviously then it would be catering to a younger demographic though. But it's end game would still be the same, in that people would be learning these glorious words.

Anyway best of luck to you, I'll probably pick it up out of pure curiosity for what the final product will be like.
