Progress Update - It's Almost Ready!
  • Between 30-35 levels. We have about 20 done now, just need to crank out the rest and playtest them.
  • Custom Maps. We've stated this before, but the game will ship with a map editor that can be used to make custom maps with custom tilesets. The editor that we currently have works, buts its Windows only. We'll be rewriting it before release so it supports all platforms.
  • Windows & Linux versions on launch. We would also like to do a Mac release, but don't have easy access to one right now, so it may launch after the other two versions.
  • Local and Online Co-op.
  • Steam stuff - achievements, cards, and hopefully workshop support for custom maps.

There were a few things that were dropped that I originally had planned.
  • Story Mode. We had a rough outline for a story, but it was just too difficult to get the art assets required in a timely manner. We didn't want it to feel rushed or tacked on, so we decided to drop it. All the levels that were planned for the story mode are still in the game, there is just nothing tying them all together.
  • Single Player mode. We just couldn't find a way to set up the game that felt comfortable for a single player. The game will be Co-op only (unless you can somehow play with 4 controllers solo).

We've Been Greenlit!!!
Release date: Early 2017
Colorful Life is a split-screen co-operative maze game. Four players are trapped and must work together to find the exit. However, each player sees a slightly different manifestation of the maze. One player's actions can slightly alter the maze of their allies. PLayers must work together in order to find each maze's exits.

Current Features
  • Local 4-player Support
  • Online Support
  • Controller Support
  • Map Creation Tool - build your own levels!

Currently Planned Features
  • Linux/Mac Support
  • Steam Workshop for Custom Levels
  • Achievements
  • Trading Cards

Mechanics Description

We are planning for the game to always be in a split screen view whether you are playing online or not. We feel this will help to promote some cooperation and communication between players.

All the gray spaces are dangerous. They slowly drain the color out of the player until the player is absent of color and dies (the player will flash between a dark gray and black to signify dying). The white spaces are safe areas and will restore lost color to the player. They also act as checkpoints - when a player dies, they return to the last entered white space.

The four players also have eight (8) shared lives per level. If all 8 lives are lost the game ends and the level will need to be restarted.

Each player has an ability that is designed to help everyone through a specific trap or obstacle.
  • Red Player has the ability to break cracked walls found throughout the maze. This allows other players who have a cracked wall in the same spot to move past it as well (breaks for all players).
  • Blue Player has the ability to move over pits found in the maze. Usually pits are accompanied by a lever that will generate a bridge (the light blue pieces in the video) across the gaps for the others to move across it.
  • Green Player has the ability to heal players for a short time, essentially acting as a mobile white space (without the checkpoint feature). Be careful though since there is a cooldown on this ability.
  • Yellow Player has the ability to dash (think Pegasus Boots from Zelda games). The player can not turn while dashing and can only stop dashing when a wall is hit. It can be dangerous to use this ability without knowing whats ahead, but it is also the only ability to get players past the spike traps.

To be honest, It looks more aimed to kids with it's sounds and bright colors. The thought about teamwork is great but, it won't probably go anywhere with ages 12+

Love the controller support and map creation tool. Would be even better if my friends got this game so we could do multiplayer.
