August Update
Ever closer to Alpha and Kickstarter re-launch!
Description
Release date: Late 2015
Zpocalypse: Survival - A rogue-lite strategic survival game where you manage a group of survivors in a post-nuclear zombie apocalypse.

Zpocalypse: Survival is a game about exploration and survival in a gritty post-nuclear zombie apocalypse setting. The players job is to help a group of survivors attempt to eke out an existence and build a place for themselves in a brutal world. They will need to scavenge for supplies and food, find and fortify a shelter, recruit other survivors to their cause, craft the gear they need to continue on, defend their people, and attempt to grow and expand, facing challenges every step of the way.

The game is part Sandbox, Real Time Strategy, and RPG with the following core features:
  • Squad-centric tactical combat - Utilizing real-time with pause, combat and tactical decision making will ultimately determine whether you survive. You play as anywhere between 1 and 4 survivors while exploring. Our focus on a squad of survivors allows us to have a higher turn-over on characters to really instill the brutal nature of the game world while allowing a player to continue their game.

  • Rogue-lite survival hybrid – When your survivor or squad dies it doesn't necessarily mean it is the end of the game. This gives us a lot of power as developers as we can put deadly mechanics in the game that would otherwise be unfair in a normal rogue like games. We want squad members to be important and cherished but this is the apocalypse and people die and stay dead - unless of course they come back as a new undead enemy.

  • Dynamic Stories & Events – While the game is not purely story driven there will be events and elements of story depending on how you play the game. Each event is built to compliment the area it is associated with, not just make each play through different. We want to bring the world to life. Our AI Manager will help to keep the world interesting.

  • Base Building/Management/Defense – This is the yin to the exploration/scavenging plays yang. You are not just out scavenging to try and survive for yourself. Instead you to try and build up a safe place. Somewhere that you can band together with more survivors and have people work to build a new community and survive this harsh world. You are not a superhero you will need others help to make it in this world.

Yup another great game as well. Again we still have quite a few aspects setting us apart from the other titles out there and we look forward to getting this out for you all to enjoy!

Has a lot of differences from both of those. They are both great games in their own right, but we are working diligently to differntiate ourselves.

Sounds like Dead Frontier, or just a top down verison of state of decay. STATE OF DECAY Rules.

Good, I for one like a zombie game that puts emphasis on strategy rather than mowing down hordes with seemingly endless ammo.

Thanks for the input! Yeah we are definitely focused on the survival while trying to avoid combat for two good reasons: supplies are limited and the zombies are tough.

As for story we definitely have a great groundwork to build from with a story that spans a good several decades of time period. How much of that we will get to tell is up in the air at the moment.

The thing right now that is attracting me to this game is that it seems more about scavenging, survival and stealth than actual combat...so far that is different and I like it.

[part two] Realism, as most zombie games are completely unrealistic since zombies are fictional it is difficult to get a real feeling from a game but that can be amped by making the player care about characters, nervous about using supplies too fast, music that builds suspense and sounds that make you feel like you are in the game.

Unfortunately it is very difficult to not become just another geric zombie game since it requires a lot of attention to detail and a huge effort to make the game feel real.
