Dragon Fin Soup planned to be served in 6 Exciting Flavors: EFIGS+J

Our wonderful partners at Sony think that Dragon Fin Soup should be shared with all gamers, everywhere! (Or as many as a humble little indie like us can manage.) Therefore, we are excited to announce that Dragon Fin Soup is being translated and localized into English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Japanese!

Believe it or not, this is actually a HUGE undertaking. Depending on the language there is around 75,000 words to translate! All of this work is being done by Randis, Ash, and five translators. Each translator is a native speaker and have all worked on several games in the industry. We have been working on the translations for months now and there’s tons of content to edit and proofread. To top it all off, Ash is dyslexic and English is Randis’s THIRD language. You get the idea…

Squish, squish, squish, go the bugs - QA Team Expose!

As mentioned in our last update, we have created a Grimm Bros QA Lab at the Philly Game Forge[] and recruited college students to find and squash bugs, help us balance the game, and make sure DFS is a savory experience. But who in the world are these insane mysterious individuals really?

Who are these guys?!

Our “Evil Minions” are in fact Drexel College[] students doing a summer co-op internship with Grimm Bros. Our dedicated QA Team has been testing almost daily since mid March and has spent an estimated 1200+ hours doing extensive QA playtesting on multiple platforms, writing up reports for the dev team and supporting Ash on the PR and Production side of things.

Lets meet our hard working QA Team shall we?

Dragon Fin Soup is scheduled to officially launch on STEAM PC, PS4, PS3, and PS Vita... ALL AT THE SAME TIME!! Whaaa!?!

So most indies like us typically release on one platform at a time, such as STEAM or iOS in English and then do staggered ports to other platforms over time. It is pretty crazy and almost unheard of for a 5 person indie team, on their first RPG title, to even attempt to launch on 4 major platforms in 6 different languages worldwide! But Sony has faith in us as veteran team and we have a great partner with BlitWorks[] who are working hard on the Sony platforms.

Due to all of the localization and ongoing QA efforts on PC, PS4, PS3, and PS Vita, our partners at Sony have requested we take just a bit more time to proofread, double-check the languages, and conduct additional extensive playtesting on all platforms to ensure DFS is the best we can possibly make it. Our new launch window is now scheduled for Fall 2015. We seriously appreciate your understanding.

To give you a sense of scope of Dragon Fin Soup, our current QA Team estimates put DFS as over 60+ hours of gameplay in Story, Survival and Labyrinth mode combined. And as mentioned before we have roughly 75,000 words that are being translated in 6 languages. That is a TON of content to test and triple-check!

Exact official launch date will be announced to you once we receive confirmation from Sony. We sincerely appreciate your understanding, patience, and support. As an indie, giving you our best means everything to us.

Size matters when it comes to Bloody Rings!

Production of all your awesome backer swag is about to begin. The last piece of information we need is your finger size for your blood rings. Below is a link to the Blood Ring survey. If you back any tiers above Blood Ring (Except Otaku) fill this bad boy out. We will also be sending an email out to each qualified backer shortly.

Not to worry, there is still one final survey we will send out once we officially announce our launch dates to confirm what platform you want to play DFS on.

PAX Prime 2015

Can you believe it's been almost THREE years that we've been working non-stop on Dragon Fin Soup?

We are very happy to announce that we will be attending PAX Prime 2015 for the third straight year in a row! This year we are proud to say that we plan to have the PC, PS4, and PS Vita versions all completed and ready for you to enjoy!

Shout out for Cipher Prime

We haven't done a shout out in a long time, but when fellow indie studio and friends Cipher Prime[] released their profit jam game, "Monster Want Burger!" we had to share the news :D

Check it out on iOS at and iTunes

Thank you

Thank you everyone for your understanding, patience, and support. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out directly to us at or make a post on our Facebook, Twitter, or our Dev Forums[]. Squish, squish, squish, go the bugs - QA Testing
We’re happy to share that we are now doing internal BETA testing for Dragon Fin Soup! What the heck does this mean you ask? It means...
  • The game is content complete.
  • We are pushing towards code lock.
  • We’ve recruited a crack team of evil minions a.k.a. Grimm interns, to help us hammer on the build and squash all those nasty bugs.
You’re probably wondering a few things like “When is Dragon Fin Soup coming out?” or even better “When are we getting our backer goodies?” and of course “When is Closed BETA?” Find out below!

Welcome to the Grimm Bros QA lab. Here, we have genetically engineered college students to sit in front of a computer for hours on end making sure that Dragon Fin Soup is the greatest, most epically badass experience possible.

As we mentioned previously, Dragon Fin Soup is now content complete! What does that mean you ask? It means that the game is 98% complete, and all the main features are in! So why hasn’t DFS launched yet? We want to make sure that our baby is as polished and perfect as humanly possible, so we have a bunch of Production/QA interns hammering away at the Philly Game Forge[] - finding and squashing bugs, helping us balance the game, and make sure DFS is a fun experience.

As of today, our QA team have been playtesting DFS daily for several weeks. The QA team has only been testing Survival and Endless Labyrinth, so Story Mode will be up next. So far they think the game is challenging, fun, and very good looking. Oh, and they die a lot :D

Regarding a Closed BETA
Being as straightforward and transparent as usual, here’s the deal: We’ve determined that we won’t be able to have a Closed BETA for DFS as we had initially hoped.

There are several reasons why unfortunately, we choose not to conduct a Closed BETA.
  • We simply lack the resources (time, budget, people) to conduct a thorough Closed BETA properly where we can distribute the build digitally online reliably, compile playtester feedback, and turn around new builds in a rapid fashion.
  • Dragon Fin Soup is currently not encrypted, which makes leaking a possibility. In this state a leak of the game would be reeeeeaaally bad. Not that we don't trust people, we love you guys, but mistakes happen. On the programming side, the build being ported to SONY Platforms contains a lot of sensitive code. At this stage of the development we are still using the same repository that partially includes the code for the Sony consoles and that is where things get a bit complicated.
  • While it is possible to do a Closed BETA at the Philly Game Forge - it would not be fair to ask backers or potentially playtesters to fly all the way out here just for a week or two.
  • Any Closed BETA would potentially give away spoilers to the game’s story.
We are currently focusing hard on completing the game. We’ve said it a few times and its part of our core values - we want to make a great game, and to do that, all of our resources are dedicated to completing the game, QA testing, and preparing for launch. However, we may put together a PC demo before we launch, and if so, our backers and supporters will be the first to get their hands on it.

Dragon Fin Soup … Coming Summer 2015!

Now, the question on everybody’s minds... When do we all get some of that delicious, spicy, chunky Dragon Fin Soup?

We want Dragon Fin Soup to be fun, exciting, and most importantly, complete. So in the spirit of indie game dev, the game is “done when it’s done.” We do not have a hard release date yet, so if we feel that DFS needs more polish or we find new bugs, we may take a bit more time. We will of course keep you all informed about the developments. We have also added additional unannounced features to the game, which is part of the reason things are taking longer than originally planned. Plus, we need to ensure DFS runs well on every platform!

Fortunately, our estimated release date is sooner rather than later. After we have a final game build that we are satisfied with, we submit it to Sony and Steam, and off it goes to your Computers/Playstations! Tentatively expect Dragon Fin Soup initial staggered launch starting this Summer, 2015. Stay tuned for more details on official launch dates and platforms.

Backer Rewards - AKA Where is my Stuff!

Backer rewards will be sent out ASAP, hopefully in tandem with our launch. We have almost all of the specs and info we need, and the orders are ready to be placed, its just that right now we are pouring all of our time, effort, and resources into making the game great. We deeply, deeply, sincerely appreciate your understanding and patience with us as we work hard to make Dragon Fin Soup the best experience possible.

PAX East Wrap Up!

Last month we were at PAX East for the 2nd year in a row, showing off our baby Dragon Fin Soup!

Boston was cold and full of drunk people with weird accents, not including our team. We came into our 2nd year at PAX East with a brand new, larger, bigger, faster, stronger, more badass, booth, and lots of goodies to go with it. We shared a new DFS HD video teaser trailer (soon to debut on PS Blog), 3 new high quality art prints, 2 awesome cosplayers for both Red Robin and Morgiana, PS Vita, PC and PS4 Demos of DFS, new t-shirts for sale, buttons, and lots of fun.

To see our full album of our PAX East adventures on FB, click HERE!

Once again, we couldn’t have done this without all of you! We really appreciate all your patience and understanding. I also apologize for the delayed update, it’s just five of us and things have been pretty crazy lately. Expect more positive and fun updates in the future.

Take care and talk soon everyone!

Release date: Summer 2015

Dragon Fin Soup seamlessly blends genres to create a fresh experience: half story-driven tactical RPG and half high-stakes roguelike, with a pinch of crass humor and a heaping helping of murder & madness set in a procedurally generated fantasy world.

Meet Red Robin - a charming, yet raging alcoholic bounty hunter, who’d rather get into a bar
fight than deliver baked goods. Players must take up Robin’s blades and set out across Asura, a lushly colorful fantasy world that sits on the back of an enormous space turtle, on a journey to discover the secrets of her bloody past.

This game is not for the casual player and can be highly addictive.
Dragon Fin Soup contains the following:
  • Raging alcoholic bounty hunter heroine
  • Superfluid turn-based tactical combat
  • New procedurally generated world each time you play
  • Crafting, fishing, mercenaries for hire, and awesome pets to collect
  • Over 60+ hours of roguelike gameplay in Story, Survival & Labyrinth modes
Dragon Fin Soup is hand crafted by a 5 person indie development team - Grimm Bros LLC.
