Earth Prison (Beta)

Trap your enemies in stone, holding them in place until you can deal with them. Be careful, though... ranged opponents can still attack you!

Added nifty logo... be sure to thank my wife ;)

Update: Cleaned up break-down animation, sped up animation slightly.

For some reason Fraps seems to be interfering with script processing on my system. Recording at any quality/fps reduces script speed by half, sometimes more. As a result, to get a decent video of the spell I had to record it with my phone, so sorry about the quality.

There is a HQ video but it is NOT indicative of the spell's casting speed, only of how it affects differently-sized enemies.

If you're familiar with my other spells, you'll know where to look for it... Yeap, it's on Farengar's desk again in Dragonreach.

This is an actor-targeted spell. Casting it at the ground or inanimate objects will just waste your Magicka. It has a decent range, but you must aim well!

This is a straightforward Alteration spell. When cast on an appropriate target (pretty much anything that isn't a Dragon) it will cause pillars of earth to rise from the ground, trapping the enemy in the middle of them. If they have a ranged attack (bows, magic, etc) they CAN target you and shoot between the bars of their prison. It will last 30 seconds, and duration should go up as you increase your Alteration skills.

Enemies immune to Paralysis are NOT necessarily immune to this spell.

None, as far as I know.

Known Issues or Bugs
THIS SPELL IS VERY SCRIPT-INTENSIVE. That means you need a fast CPU (NOT graphics card!) for it to work right. Slow CPUs will result in casting glitches, particularly if you cast it repeatedly.

Some enemies with large hitboxes (notably wolves, but there are others) will get a much larger wall than needed, with huge gaps between the columns. The spell will still hold them in place, but it looks really stupid. As a counter to this, some enemies get too SMALL a prison, so they are trapped in what looks like

If you cast the spell repeatedly on a single target, it is possible that they will get permanantly stuck in place, even after spell wears off.

Add a crumbling effect to the spell's breakdown animation. This is actually in place, but for some reason spawning a lot of rock hazards sometimes causes a CTD, so it's turned off. Will implement this when I can figure out a workaround. -- ON INDEFINITE HOLD DUE TO A BETHESDA BUG :(

Fix prison area calculation for enemies with large hitboxes and small models (like wolves).

This spell uses activators to place and move the pillars about. Since Skyrim has code to keep NPCs from getting stuck (it will eventually teleport pathed NPCs past the barrier) the spell also sets the target's SpeedMult to 0.01 for the duration.

1. Extract this archive to any folder and then copy the contents to Skyrim's Data folder.

Or simply use Nexus Mod Manager. ;)

1. Start Skyrim Launcher, click Data Files, uncheck the ElemEarthPrison.esp file(s).
2. Delete the files/folders associated with the mod.

Or just use Nexus Mod Manager.

Just overwrite everything, no problem.

So, I tried to download it on nexus...
the same problem...
In the 1st person view it works for a certain distance, but in the 3rd person view it doesn't work until you literally stand in front of your opponent...

Please fix this

If I hit an opponent with a spell that is not cast far to him it takes my magika but it doesn't effect him.
And if it's cast very near to does effect him, but the sound of the rocks coming up is like 5- 10 seconds to late

I have a problem:
To effect foes with the spell I have to be very near to them...(a range in which I probably could hit them with a sword)... in your video you cast the spell from farther than that...

Do you have any idea what went wrong??

Well I think everyone should be entitled to their own opinion. So JID127's comment isn't stupid it's just how he feels about the mod and a bit of critisism is good because it encourages development.

...another great idea...may i use this mod as a reward to be found in my Dungeon? It 's a small one and my first. But a special Item would be great! Already in my workshop if u wanna have a look.

great stuff but, I personally feel like this mod is kind of overpowered. it's mostly because the spell only takes 50% of magicka to use.

I'd like it even more if i had to use this spell wisely and make each one count. making it use 75-80% of magicka would definitely make it much more enjoyable for me, so i don't feel tempted to trap everyone i see, and have little to no consequence for doing it.

and the duration could use a very small tweak too. i'd feel better if it lasted only 20 seconds instead of 30. right now i feel like enemies don't stand a chance against me, they can only watch as i entrap and damage them relentlessly until they die, haha.

Other than that, great mod. but it feels a bit too overpowered for me to truly enjoy it. might have to uninstall for a bit until it's tweaked so im not tempted to trap everything i see. Fav'd so i can access it later at some point.
