Progress Report #1
The next release is coming soon
Release date: Q3/2014
LeanDomain[] application is the first application from a Finnish startup company called Explosivo Ltd.

With the LeanDomain application you can search domain names. Soon you shall be able to make domain reservations. After that, much much more.

We have done the first release in December 2013, which supported Windows, OS X and Linux platforms. Then in Q1/2014 we made the first release for Android. After these two releases we have been working on a major redesign of our UI (v2.0) and we have the application running on iOS devices. Once we have completed our localization and testing phase of the new version, we will share the good news with you asap.

Downloads - v1.0

  • Windows
  • OS X
  • Linux
  • Android
  • iOS

We feel that Steam Greenlight is the right place to gather valuable input from people during the software development in as early phase as possible.

In other words, we think that we have something useful already which you should be able to start to use, but we do know that there are rough edges and several features are missing (be warned evil monsters lurks ahead).

If you think that some feature would be great and useful, please let us know about it and we will evaluate and see if we are able to implement it.

Our next goal is to finalize the domain reservation feature, including the payment related topics. After that you should be able to use application to register domains as well.

FEATURES in v1.0
This was released in December 2013.
  • Search for domain availability.
  • Tap to see the whois results.
  • Application installer with uninstaller application.
  • Online repository for new releases and an update notification inside the application.
  • Retina display support
  • Quick Filters
  • User settings are stored in an ini-file.

FEATURES in v2.0
20.7.2014 - We are now in testing phase of this version for mobile devices (Android, iOS). The same application runs on desktop operating systems such as Windows 8.1, OS X 10.9 and Ubuntu Linux 14.04. However we will focus this release for the mobile platforms first, and the desktop application distribution will be on our radar after the Play Store (Android) and App Store (iOS) distributions.
  • Domain Availability and Whois Search
  • Domain Reservations
  • Dynamic DNS
  • URL and Email Forwarding
  • Payments over PayPal
  • Platforms: Android, iOS

  • Source Code Editor for Websites
  • Website Templates & Editor
  • Create and Manage virtual machines

Can't we just search domain names for free?
The application would be free (or as cheap as possible in order to cover the costs). The services will have a price, as those costs to us as well.

There are already existing websites, which I can use to search for domains, why should I use this?
The domain availability search queries the whois results only from the main TLD whois service, not from those lower level whois services, so that those operators cant get any hint that you are interested on a domain, like in the case of that domain being a "pending-deletion" domain, they wont get any statistics. And it is your computer which is doing the query, not our servers.

If you would do the search on some random website, how could you be sure that those guys does not reserve your domain as you make the query. Another side of things is that in our case, you are free to use any network traffic analysis (etc) tool to see what our application is doing. When you use some 3rd party online -service the scenario isn't the same. So we don't ask you to trust us, what we are saying is that you have the freedom to make your own decision if we are worthy of your trust.

You could also use telnet client to connect to whois server's port 43. The application just makes it more nicer and leaner.

i´m looking for this so long, nice :) "even though it is a relatively small program"

not sure i'd use it myself, but it is free and looks good (and steam needs more non-game software). All in all as long as it stays free there is no reason it should not be on steam.

Who need this? My domain provider can show me free domains and I can reserve any supported domain in no-time.
But for commercial use it can be useful, I think.

We are currently going thru the integration of the account integration, which includes setting up url and email forwarding for your domains. Once that is in place the new ui will be released for your use. We are also working on to provide a documented public API with code example(s) for your hacking needs as well.

We are still preparing for the release which will have more sexier user-interface and also the domains will be available for you to reserve as well. The pricing plans will be published once we have all the bits and pieces in place. The full list of available TLDs will be announced soon.
