Downloadable PC demo build now hosted at our website
The July 2014 Development Update Video is now up!
Release date: Available now (web client), Windows client available on, TBA on steam.
Ascent is a PVE Space MMO with 270,000,000,000 star systems.

In a future where civilisation has almost completely collapsed, players must work together to prevent total disaster, and rebuild a new civilisation of their own choosing.

So far, completed features include:

  • Combat (fighter style dogfighting, and big ship broadside duels)
  • Trading
  • Mission system (combat, transport, passengers, courier, supply, demand)
  • Asteroid mining
  • Farming and mining on planet surfaces
  • Personal starbase construction
  • Research
  • Manufacturing (you can build and customise your ships, including custom color schemes)
  • Interaction with other players (you can see their ships in space, trade with them on the global market, and galaxy-wide chat is enabled)
  • Gas giant harvesting. (because sometimes you need things like hydrogen and oxygen!)
  • Exploration and Colonization in a galaxy of 270 billion star systems

We release a new major version roughly once every month.

In the beginning the game is crazily simple / easy to get into, especially if you choose the industrialist rather than combat-oriented starting position. However, the level of difficulty and complexity steadily ramp up and up, along with the rewards. See our design & vision statements on the website for further details.

Currently the game is playable on Windows and Mac using the Unity3d web client, directly through our website ( and a PC client is available through Desura[], and hopefully soon Steam as well.

Brilliant Game (Devildog here). I would recommend this game to anyone who has been waiting for a truely immersive 4x gaming experience. Great community, focused developer who listens to his users and actually builds what the users want!

Thanks Xena! I refused to believe the space sim was dead too... turns out we were all spectacularly right!

It's exhilarating to immerse oneself in a contemporary, well crafted space sim! I'm really bored of the 4x turn based strategy games set in space! I'm even more burned out on zombie hunting. For more than a decade, this space sim genre's been so neglected. Forgotten, really. Some journos even pronounced space combat/trading/exploration extinct.

I recall reading an online article which blithely declared there was NO longer any interest in such games. Arrogant? Justa little!. lol. Along with a few other middle aged gamers, I called the DNR pronouncement preposterous. We were about to discover how delicious karma can be when, just a few days later, the existence of Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous were revealed to an anxious crowd of space sim fans!!!

Thank you for remembering gamers like myself who waited yearsfor new games. (lol - I've even referred to your studio as the "Wizards of Oz" to friends looking for new spave sims to play).

Finally, a game that can live up to the expectation for space games that Freelancer brought about.
