A Tale of Tongues - Nordic Edition

This version of ATOT tweaks all of the vanilla shouts in the same way that ATOTS does, however the visual effects for all of the shouts have been altered.

If you do not read the entire description you will not understand what this mod does!

My aim in this mod was to make shouting feel more 'Nordic' by putting an emphasis on the actual 'shouting' and making it seem less as though you are simply casting spells out of your mouth. I wanted make Tongues seem more like warriors and a lot less like spellcasters.

What this means is:
  • All of the more colourful shout projectile effects have been replaced with a more realistic looking one.

  • The Imods (image modifiers, where the screen flashes a certian colour when casting a shout) have been removed.

  • All effect shaders have been removed.

The shouts look a lot more realistic now in my opinion. If you were like me and thought that the Dragon Shouts looked a bit too 'arcane' and magical, this may be the mod for you.

Because effect shaders have been removed, it can be difficult to tell when a shout has suceeded. When using dismay, for example, a flash of red will not occur when the target has been hit and 'Feared' enemies will not glow red. It looks a lot more realistic now but it can make the game a lot harder.

Almost all projectile shouts have a been altered to look more realistic, however those shouts based on elements (Fire Breath, Frost Breath, Ice Form) have been unaltered, keeping with the theme of the mod. Please also note that only the visuals of the projectiles have been changed, they still have the size/shape/speed of the original projectiles.

You really wont know exactly what I mean untill you try these shouts out for yourself. This is a matter of personal taste, and I can understand that certian people may not like this mod. In my opinion however, I feel that I have made Tongues seem much more like warriors and a lot less like spellcasters.

Please take note:
As well as altering the visuals of the shouts, this mod also includes all of the changes to effects and cooldowns of A Tale of Tounges - Standard Edition. Don't subscribe to both as they are non-compatible!

I highly reccomend that you read the description of A Tale of Tounges - Standard Edition so that you can see the changes to shout effects and cooldowns that this mod also adds.

May Talos guide your path - Grey

Yeah, back in my minecraft modding days, that was what evereryone did. They just posted thier mods through an link. You just had to watch like a 5 second ad before downloading. Evereyone was happy, it was a win-win.

and thanks for being an awesome fan ;)

@TheGreyLight It's great to see someone with a good outlook on this situation. Valve is dividing the community here, and I think your ideas about an ad show would be the best way to find a middle ground. I've enjoyed all of your mods, thank you for being an awesome content creator :)

In response to the recent changes to steam which allow creators to charge for mods:

To be honest im really dissapointed. One of the best things about modding is that it was free and available to everyone. It is was community creating imaginitive content for other people to enjoy. There were no restrains to what could be done. It was such a special thing for me as a creator to share my little piece of the world with everyone, and paying for mods really ruins it.

I can understand why steam would think that this would be beneficial for the creators. Supporting creators for thier works seems like a good idea in theory. But it isnt about the money, its about the joy of creating, and having others experience your creation...

...I always used to get so much excitement from viewing the front page, and looking at all of the amazing content everyone has created. All of it free and available for everyone to enjoy. Soon it will just be a wall full of numbers and closed doors. It will be a dissapointment, looking at all the content you could have if you were richer. These days it seems like every game is becoming pay to play.

Modding should be free. If you really want to support creators steam, have an ad show before download. This way the content is still free, and creator still get a bit of money for their work. Monitzation is going to kill this community. It will suck all the life and joy out of modding for everyone.

Even though im not actively creating mods anymore, all of my mods will remain free forever. Im really sorry this has happened, an I wish it werent the case.
