Description
A Tale of Tongues - Standard Edition

This version of ATOT tweaks all of the vanilla shouts in order to provide versatility and power to the aspiring Dovahkiin.

REQUIRES DAWNGUARD AND DRAGONBORN

I had a lot of issues with the vanilla shouts, and for those of you who follow my mods you will know that when I take issue with something I completely change it. My aim with this mod is to add power and usefulness to the shouts whilst still staying as true as possible to the vanilla feel of the game. Every change I have made to the shouts can be found listed below. if a particular detail isn't listed (such as the duration or cooldown of a particular shout) then it remains as the vanilla value. This is going to be a long description so hang on to your sweetrolls!

Shout Changes:

Animal Allegiance

1 LV 20 -> 15 Area 75 -> 150 Dur 30 -> 60 CD 50 -> 15
2 LV 20 -> 30 Area 150 -> 300 Dur 45 -> 120 CD 60 -> 20
3 LV 20 -> all Area 250 -> 500 Dur 60 -> 180 CD 70 -> 25

This was a pretty underpowered shout, even though the idea had so much potential. An increase in level, duration and area and a reduction in cooldown makes for a much more balanced shout considering that you can only use it whilst animals are around.

Aura Whisper

1 Dur 10 -> 3 CD 30 -> 5
2 Dur 20 -> 20 CD 40 -> 15
3 Dur 30 -> 60 CD 50 -> 30

I wanted to add a bit of variety to this shout. The first word is good for checking out how many enemies are in the next room before storming in, whilst the last word is good for traversing dungeons seeing all the enemies at once.

Battle Fury

1 CD 20 -> 10
2 CD 30 -> 20
3 CD 40 -> 30

A good shout, but I felt the cooldown was slightly too high as it is a purely team support effect.

Become Ethereal

1 Dur 8 -> 10 CD 20 -> 10
2 Dur 13 -> 20 CD 30 -> 20
3 Dur 18 -> 30 CD 40 -> 30

I wanted to make this shout last a bit longer, so that when I use it to run around skyrim without losing any stamina I didn't have to keep reusing this shout so often. Also I kept dying jumping off cliffs...

Bend Will

1 CD 10 -> 10
1 CD 90 -> 30
1 CD 120 -> 60

Cooldown decreased for a shout of varying usefulness. I dont know about anyone else but I only ever use this shout to mount dragons.

Call of Valor

1 Dur 60 -> 120 CD 180 -> 120
2 Dur 60 -> 120 CD 180 -> 120
3 Dur 60 -> 120 CD 180 -> 120

Reduced cooldown and increased duration.

Cyclone

*Created a visual Imod effect when the shout is used, It looked a bit plain previously

1 CD 30 -> 20
1 CD 45 -> 30
1 CD 60 -> 40

Im not sure how many people know this but this shout is actually a very effective offensive shout. It deals a fair amount of damage and it throws people. It did look a bit strange though summoning a whirlwind out of nowhere so a slight Imod (a blurred screen effect) was added to make the visuals fit in better with the other houts.

Disarm

1 LV 12 -> 15 CD 30 -> 10
2 Lv 20 -> 30 CD 35 -> 15
3 LV 30 -> all CD 40 -> 20

The level cap made this shout unuseable in the later game. Cooldown greatly decresed to make for a much more dynamic shout.

Dismay

*works for all targets except automatons

1 LV 7 -> 15 Dur 30 -> 60 CD 40 -> 20
2 LV 15 -> 30 Dur 30 -> 120 CD 45 -> 30
3 LV 24 -> all Dur 30 -> 180 CD 50 -> 40

Agian, the level cap made this shout almost useless later on in the game. Now it works for undead and atronachs, but not automatons. Automatons are fearless buggers.

Dragon Aspect

*Removed once a day restriction

1 CD 5 -> 30
2 CD 5 -> 45
3 CD 5 -> 60

Once a day shouts? How about no. Effect is the same but cooldown greatly increased to maintain balance.

Drain Vitality

*Now absorbs stamina, magicka and health.

1 CD 30 -> 20
2 CD 60 -> 30
3 CD 90 -> 40

Im sure a lot of people were expecting this shout to absorb the stamina, magicka and health from the target as I did berfore I used it. Welp, now it does! It even has that awesome draining effect in three different colours. Green for stamina, blue for magicka and red for health. Looks a bit like christmas...

Elemental Fury

1 Mag 1.3 -> 1.5 Dur 15 -> 15 CD 30 -> 15
1 Mag 1.5 -> 1.7 Dur 15 -> 30 CD 40 -> 30
1 Mag 1.7 -> 2.0 Dur 15 -> 60 CD 50 -> 60

This was a pretty neat shout, however I felt that it could be a little faster. The cooldowns were also altered.

Fire Breath

*Push effect added to 2nd and 3rd words
*Stagger increased

1 Dmg 50 over 1 second -> 100 over 1 second CD 30 -> 20
2 Dmg 70 over 1 second -> 200 over 1 second CD 50 -> 40
3 Dmg 100 over 1 second -> 300 over 1 second CD 100 -> 50

Initially this shout had a small stagger effect if you hit an enemy. Now this shout has a large stagger on the first word and an unrelenting force style push effect on the second an third words. The push effect isn't as strong as (the new) unrelenting force however. Damage also greatly increased and cooldown altered.

Frost Breath

*Push effect added to 2nd and 3rd words
*Stagger increased

1 Dmg 50 over 5 seconds -> 100 over 5 seconds Slow 50% for 5 seconds -> 50% over 5 seconds CD 30 -> 20
2 Dmg 70 over 5 seconds -> 200 over 5 seconds Slow 50% for 5 seconds -> 50% over 5 seconds CD 50 -> 40
3 Dmg 90 over 5 seconds -> 300 over 6 seconds Slow 50% for 5 seconds -> 50% over 6 seconds CD 100 -> 50

Initially this shout had a small stagger effect if you hit an enemy. Now this shout has a large stagger on the first word and an unrelenting force style push effect on the second an third words. The push effect isn't as strong as (the new) unrelenting force however. Damage also greatly increased and cooldown altered.

Ice Form

1 CD 60 -> 20
2 CD 90 -> 35
3 CD 120 -> 50

Another shout I thought was quite good. The cooldowns were far too high however, considering the enemy could break free when attacked.

Kynes Peace

*Removed detect life effect
*Works for all enemies except automatons

1 LV 20 -> 20 Area 75 -> 150 Dur 60 -> 60 CD 40 -> 20
2 LV 20 -> 40 Area 150 -> 300 Dur 120 -> 120 CD 50 -> 30
3 LV 20 -> all Area 250 -> 500 Dur 180 -> 180 CD 40 -> 40

Good thing I have Kynes Peace! Said nobody ever. One of the worst shouts of them all will now become one of you favourites. It now works like an AOE pacifcy, similar to the Harmony illusiion spell. It works for all creatures except them pesky automatons.

Marked for Death

1 Dmg 1ps -> 1ps Armour Drop 25 -> 50 Dur 60 -> 60 CD 20 -> 20
1 Dmg 2ps -> 3ps Armour Drop 50 -> 100 Dur 60 -> 120 CD 30 -> 30
1 Dmg 3ps -> 5ps Armour Drop 75 -> 150 Dur 60 -> 180 CD 40 -> 40

Damage and armour loss slightly increased. Increasing duration with each word.

Slow Time

1 Mag 70% -> 80% Dur 8 -> 10 CD 30 -> 20
1 Mag 80% -> 90% Dur 12 -> 15 CD 45 -> 30
1 Mag 90% -> 99% Dur 15 -> 20 CD 60 -> 40

Slow time effect and duration increased. Cooldowns lowered.

Unrelenting Force

*Push effect added to all three words

1 CD 15 -> 10
2 CD 20 -> 20
3 CD 45 -> 30

The most classic shout should deserve a little empowerment! First two words initially had stagger effects, now all have push effects. First = small push. Second = level of push the third word used to have. Third = new and stonger push.

I ran out of characters for my description! The following shouts only have cooldown reductions:

Call Dragon

Soul Tear

Storm Call

Summon Durnehviir

Whirlwind Sprint

These shouts are unchanged:

Throw Voice

Clear Skies

Dragonrend

There is one tiny bug in this mod: When you go to the Greybeards for the first time and use FUS on Arngier, it wont register you as doing anything. Disable this mod when doing that part of the quest and then re-enable it after.

Thats all! Hope you guys enjoy! ;)

it would be cool if you changed the sound effects so for example, instead of fus...roh dah, you shout fus roh dah (like in the trailer).
I liked the Dragon Aspect shout a lot. I'm very glad you took away that stupid once a day cooldown, especially since you see Miraak using it like every two freaking seconds, along with almost every other shout in the game.

the dragon aspect shout was meant to be once a day-little cooldown because it reduced cooldowns on the other shouts and making dragonborn stronger while fighting. but it would be great if you could make it optional just sayin otherwise this mod look quite great with them bothering cooldowns deacreased and low damage increased.

how u get shield on ur back?

instead of having us disable the mod for greybeards quest...you could instead restore the first word of fus to vanilla but keep the others the same. that may fix the bug

I guess a better version of the 'did you' question, which is answered no by the descriptions, is could you if you like the idea?

A question, because I never looked too closely at the exact values regarding shouts. Did you up the power of Drain Vitality? Because I thought it was weird that by default, Marked for Death actually does more damage total than Drain Vitality. Drain Vitality does 5/sec over 30 seconds, but Marked for Death does 3/sec over 60 seconds. With this mod, it now does twice the damage of Drain Vitality, which seems like a pretty drastic difference. Maybe double the per second power of Drain Vitality so it does the same amount of damage as the Revered and Legendary Dragon's versions? It would at least make them equal. I just feel like a shout that is only intended to drain energies should do that job better than one meant to weaken the opponent by making them vulnerable. Just a suggestion.

@Shizuru - I Yep. In the description ;)

@Shizuru - I it says right up there ^^^^^ that it's a bug created by the mod. Disable it, complete the quest, and then re-enable the mod.
