What is Heroes of Issachar?

Heroes of Issachar is a faith-based game set in a fantasy world where you are tasked with rebuilding a kingdom ravaged by evil forces. Go on epic quests, interact with the various kingdoms of the land, and rebuild the castle in anticipation of a final showdown.
Heroes of Issachar takes the action role-playing genre and meshes it with an in-depth, castle building sim. You take the role of a wandering hero who agrees to help the people of Issachar rebuild and defend their castle. In order to do this, you must quest to recover the kingdom's people who have been taken by the forces of evil. Along the way you will recover resources to use in rebuilding the kingdom. Between the people and resources you recover, you decide how to rebuild the kingdom to suit your gameplay style. Decide whether to build military might, or castle defenses, or restore the kingdom economy, or a variety and combination of other options.

Along the way, you will interact with the diverse people of the land. Befriend one kingdom and they may unlock valuable items, skills, or technology for you, but that may provoke another to become hostile toward your efforts. One kingdom may be adept at magic, while another has technology that could turn the tide of battle. Which side will you seek to aid your cause?

Action RPG

The game is played from a third-person perspective. The hero will have a variety of melee attacks, ranged attacks and spells, which you will unlock and develop throughout the game. You will also develop talents that will affect how you interact with the environment. Develop your trap detection ability so that you avoid a fatal fall in a dungeon, or develop your herbalist skills so you can turn the Joruga Root you find in the wilderness into a healing potion.

Besides your the hero, you will gain companions along the way. These hero NPC's will quest and fight alongside the hero throughout the game. These NPC's have their own abilities, talents and equipment. They gain their own experience and you choose how they progress throughout the game.

Castle Builder

As you explore the open-world of Heroes of Issachar, you will recover resources for the kingdom. You can use these resources as you see fit to rebuild the kingdom. Set the boundaries of the castle with walls, dig moats, build one of many types of defensive towers and design chokepoints for incoming attackers. But don't neglect the economy of the kingdom; build woodcutter houses to gather wood and mills to increase its yield so that you can build the kingdom more efficiently. Of course, there is also the need for a strong military, so build a warrior's guild to upgrade you and your companion's fighting abilities, or build a blacksmith to upgrade your weapons.

You choose how to develop the kingdom; no one way is correct. In the end, all that matters is you survive.

The Final Battle

Everything in the game points to the final showdown of the kingdom against the forces of evil. When they attack, will your kingdom survive?

Faith Based Game

The backstory of Heroes of Issachar comes from the Bible and the gospel of Jesus. Throughout the course of the game, the hero will recover lost pieces of the kingdom's Bible. From the beginning of the story to the end, the gospel is revealed through the scripture that is recovered.

Other Features

Weapon and Armor Customization

Players will be able to craft their weapons as they buy, find or make their parts. Craft a sword or axe, then upgrade it if you find a new hilt, handle, or axehead. Customize armor with engravings; different engravings give different upgrades.

Castle Assault

You are not only on the defensive. Take part in massive tug of war style castle assaults to take down enemy strongholds.

Castle Economy

You not only build the buildings, but you also help manage the workforce. You decide whether there should be townspeople working in the ore mine, or whether they are needed at the quarry.

Open World

The land is vast, filled with interesting and diverse people. To the northeast, the people have shunned magic in favor of cogs, steam engines and the rest of their technology, while the snowy mountain dwellers place their trust in the steel of their swords. The seafaring colony of pirates may offer to help, but can they be trusted? Any of them can be courted, but you must decide who to befriend and who battle.

When will Heroes of Issachar be released?

We have targeted the holiday season of 2014 for our release date. At this time, our release platforms will be PC, Mac and Linux.

Heroes of Issachar is currently in an Alpha stage. We are looking forward to the Early Access program when we are greenlit to involve the community in shaping the direction of the game.

@Taffer - We're working on meshing fantasy and scripture. We're being very careful with it, but I think we've got a way to make it work. It should be noted, however, that the player in Heroes of Issachar is not necessarily a Christian. There's no requirement that the player act one way or another. So, while scripture will be part of the story of the game, there's nothing in the game that requires the player accept it. I hope you and everyone else will continue to give feedback in this area, especially as we reveal more details.

This looks interesting. I'm glad that there is finally a faith-based game coming to steam that incorporates Biblical teachings and theology. But I'm not sure how I feel about it being incorporated into a fantasy world. Does that mean that traditional fantasy elements will be added into it like elves, orcs, ect.? I'm not sure how I feel about that because it equates the two, and many people will make a cognitive association between scripture and fantasy. Still, I'm very curious.
