Episode VI Return of the Jedi

Starting a Scene
The main modes of this table are divided into 5 Scenes. Shoot the JEDI cellar in the center of the table 4 times to light J-E-D-I and select a scene. You can choose different scenes by using the flippers. The DMD will display the currently selected scene. Hit the launch button to start the scene. If you fail a mission and the ball is still in play you will recieve a short grace period of around 5-10 seconds to shoot the cellar hole 1 time to restart the scene. Similarly, if you beat a scene you will also get a short grace period in which you can start a new scene. If the grace period expires, you must relight J-E-D-I to restart a scene or choose a new one.

Each scene contains 1 or more checkpoints. If you reach a checkpoint and fail then fail to complete the scene, you will resume at your last checkpoint when you restart the mission.
Scene 1: A Gift for Jabba
Checkpoint 1 A Gift for Jabba
  • Get to Jabba's Palace! Six blue lamps will start flashing. Which lamps are lit is random. The objective is to shoot each loop, ramp, or sinkhole which has a flashing lamp.

  • Knock In! Next you must shoot the flashing Jabba drop target on the left side of the table 3 times.

Checkpoint 2 The Rescue Mission
  • Hit the Varitarget to Lower the Carbonite Block! Hit the flashing varitarget and push it all the way back. It should take 3 or 4 clean shots.

  • Initiate the Melting Process! A spinner will rise up from the center of playfield. Spin it approximately 30 times to finish Scene 1.

Scene 2: Defeat the Rancor
Checkpoint 1 Fight with the Rancor
  • Hit the Flashing Hole to Defeat the Rancor! Shoot the 3 flashing sinkholes. These include the JABBA sinkhole on the left side of the table, the JEDI cellar hole in the center of the table, and the SPEEDER sinkhole just above the JEDI cellar hole.
  • Escape from the Rancor's Grasp. Shoot left or right orbit to register 40 pop bumper hits.

Checkpoint 2 The Execution
  • Hit the Spinner to Prepare R2-D2! A large spinner will rise up from the center of the playfield. Hit the spinner until the meter on the DMD reaches 100%.
  • Hit the Flashing Ramps to Deflect the Blasts! Shoot the center DEATH STAR mini-loop that feeds the upper flipper. Then use the upper flipper to shoot the flashing center ramp. Repeat the steps above another 2 times to complete Scene 2.

Scene 3: Operation Tydirium
Checkpoint 1
  • Load the Tydirium on the Left Ramp to Start Transmitting. Shoot the left ramp to lock your ball.
  • Press the Launch Button to Hit the Flashing Lane to Transmit the Code! Once you lock the ball in the ship, it will fly to the bottom of the table and yaw left and right and back again. Wait until your ship lines up with the flashing lane and then quickly hit the launch button to shoot your ball. Be careful if you miss because the ship can obstruct your view of the flippers.
  • Repeat the steps listed above another 2 times.

Checkpoint 2
  • Speeder Bike Pursuit. Upon completing checkpoint 1, a mini-game will immediately start. Your speeder bike is a mini-playfield. Shooting the left orbit will move your bike left, shooting the right orbit will your bike right, and shooting the center hole will fire your laser cannons. The objective is to kill 3 enemy bikers which can be seen above the mini-playfield. You must shoot and hit each biker 3 times to destroy him. You can only hit him when he is directly in front of you. You must also avoid draining the ball and hitting trees, both of which will reduce your health meter which can be seen as a meter on the DMD. If the "PLAYER" meter drops to zero, you will fail the mode. The key to beating this mode is use nudge passes to trap the ball and keep in under control. Let the enemy speeder drift into your lane and then take him down with shots to the center hole. Careless orbit shots can steer you right into a tree. The easiest way to tell if you are in the path of a tree is if either the left or right orbit lamps are flashing. If a lamp is flashing shoot it or else you will hit a tree. Important note: It is impossible to tilt the table in this mode. So nudge pass as many times as you like. Scene 3 is completed when you kill the 3rd biker.

Scene 4: The Battle of Endor
Checkpoint 1
  • Hit the Lit Lanes to Hotwire the Door! A 4-ball multiball will begin when starting scene 4. If you drain 3 balls you will fail the scene. To begin, you must shoot the 3 flashing lanes. These lanes are random.
  • Hit the Ramps to get to the Shield Generator. The shield generator dish will shift down to become a ring of spot targets. You must hit approximately 40-50 spot targets to Prepare the Charges. The left, middle and right ramps will begin flashing. Shoot the ramps to reach the shield generator targets. When the ball is diverted into the right habitrail, the ball will enter shield generator. Use the right flipper to rotate the targets.

Checkpoint 2 It's a Trap!
  • Hunt Down All the Tie Fighters! All the lanes begin flashing and miniature Tie fighters will start flying over the lanes. If a Tie fighter is not in a lane, you must wait until it enters it to actually destroy it. You must destroy a total of 12 Tie fighters.
  • Hide the Balls. To the Sinkholes! Lastly, shoot any remaining extra balls into the JEDI cellar or the SPEEDER sinkhole.

Scene 5: The Duel
Checkpoint 1 The Duel
  • Aim for Vader! Darth Vader will rise from the center of the table. Shoot him 5 times. The DMD will display your progress.
  • Hit the Spindisk to Challenge Vader! Vader will lower down into the table and the spindisk will activate. You must spin the spindisk 10 times. Be careful, the spindisk alters the trajectory of the ball.
  • Hit the Flashing Lane to Escape! Shoot the left ramp, then the varitarget, and lastly shoot the AT-ST spinner on the right side of the table. Flashing lamps will guide you.
  • Avoid the Lightsaber! Vader will rise up from the table again and throw his lightsaber at you. Avoid it by shooting the left or right orbit. A flashing lamp will indicate whether you need to shoot the left or right orbit. This mode is TIMED! You have 10 seconds to shoot the flashing orbit. You will get another 10 seconds after each successful shot. You must avoid a total of 3 lightsaber throws.
  • Hit Vader From the Unprotected Side. You must hit Vader on his left or right side. The DMD and a lit X-Wing lamp under Vader will indicate which side you need to hit him. Hit Vader 5 times.

Checkpoint 2 Into the Death Star
  • Avoid the Tie Fighters! This mission is timed you 60 seconds to complete it. Miniature Tie fighters will fly onto the table. Do not destroy them. If you destroy more than 5 you will fail the mission. The objective is to shoot the flashing lane while avoiding the Tie fighters. I am not sure if the order in which you need to hit the lanes is fixed or random. But my order was first hitting the center mini-loop, then the center ramp, left orbit, right orbit, and left ramp. Lastly, you must shoot the center spindisk. The ball will freeze on the spindisk and another ball will be auto-launched into play. Shoot the frozen ball to complete Scene 5.

Final Mode: Destroy the Emperor
Upon completion of Scenes 1-5, the final (wizard) mode will become available. Shoot the Jedi cellar hole to begin the wizard mode. The wizard mode is a timed, 4-ball multiball followed by a hurry-up mode.

Gather the Force Lighning! The 4-ball multiball will have an infinite ball save for 60 seconds. The objective is to hit the ramps which will turn the balls purple and also raise the jackpot value. Shoot the balls in the JABBA, JEDI, or SPEEDER sinkholes to collect the jackpot. I believe you must first charge the balls before shooting the sinkholes to actually collect the jackpot. In other words, shooting a purple ball in a sinkhole will collect a jackpot while shooting a regular steel-colored ball in a sinkhole will not.

Shoot the Balls into the Reactor Shaft! After the 60 seconds expires, a hurry-up mode will begin. A large hole will appear in the center of the table and the objective is to shoot your remaining balls into the hole as fast as possible to collect the hurry-up bonus. The hurry-up bonus starts at 30 million points per ball but will quickly diminish as time passes so shoot the balls in the hole as quickly as possible. After you shoot your last ball in the center hole, the wizard mode will end and the table will reset.

Brilliant! :) You realise that watching those clips have totally put me off even attempting it now! Which is kind of ironic. Seriously though, that was cool, especially the end bit, when I think you only needed one ball, put put three in.

If anyone is having trouble viewing the videos in the Mac steam client, like me, copy the url above and paste it into a different browser like chrome or safari. I'm not sure why they don't show up for me in the Mac client.
