REQUIRES DRAGONBORN DLC!

EDIT: 1,000 Subscribers?! Thanks so much for the support everyone! :) I'll be sure to bring much more to this mod in the future if I can ^^

A very small, simple, but effective mod: The Morrowind Border Trading Shack!

Adds a trading post owned by a Dark Elf named Tanahel Olatir on the border of Morrowind and Skyrim on the outskirts of Windhelm (and Blacklight in Morrowind). He has a journal with a backstory you can read as well. There is also an Alchemy Lab, Tanning Rack, Anvil, and cooking pot available for you to use inside. There is also his assistant Khajiit with Journal backstory included., who will train you in pickpocketing up to Level 80. There are also 3 new drinks that restore 100 health, stamina, and magika respectively. There is also a note in the Retching Netch Cornerclub that reveals the location of the shack on the map for you.

Tanahel will sell food, clothing, spell books, weapons, alchemy supplies, potions, and many goods from Morrowind/Solstheim. (and a few other surprises!) I've also made the potions, weapons and such displayed for sale on the shelves to be leveled with your character, meaning if you come back later, or the higher your level, the better his merchandise will get!

This mod is aimed to bring a little bit of Morrowind into Skyrim itself. It also bothered me a bit that there isn't really anything interesting on the borders of Skyrim. This mod is aimed at fixing that, giving one of the borders of Skyrim a way of saying "Congrats! You reached the edge of Skyrim! Here, have some nostalgia!" :)

Let me know what you think, and if there are any bugs. As usual with any mod, save separately before you install this mod and afterward.

This mod only has one small known issue that is easily fixable. If the merchant or Khajiit leaves the house, they don't manually return to it, so you have to return them yourself by selecting them in the console, going to the inside of the shack and type "moveto.player". If you load a previous save that's inside the shack, they may dissapear. Restart the game from a save outside and they should reappear :) Still working on fixing this.

Sweet! Make sure to put it up on Nexus so people have an opportunity to donate there. ^^

Welp, paid mods are gone so.....My new Chef Mod entitled "The Hungry Cliffracer Farmhouse" is now out!

Enjoy! :3

Yeah, definitely wait till Monday/Tuesday until Gaben does his announcement. Then you'll have a better idea what to expect from all this.

Also, it's sad to note many of the big named mods have already been taken down in the Workshop for stealing assets. People are still frothy over that. Wet & Cold recently was slapped with a DMCA notice. I'm not sure if it's still available anymore.

As an aside, I would look into how another Steam modder has set up their paid system. They added "Donate" in the title, set the minimum to $0.30 & then linked the free version on Nexus. Seems plenty of people have given them kudos for taking that type of route. Just something to consider.

Thanks for the info! I'll check it out!

And thanks! My next mod is actually already done, but I'm probably gonna wait until at least next weekend to release it until all this blows over. :P

As a modder, you have an option to request such features. Or at least I hope so.

You know what would be the BEST option overall? A Pay What You Want WITH featuring the Top 3 donators. There are so many people who'd love to show that they support their favourite modder, or even just to show off they could afford to donate that much. It'd be a win-win-win.

Check this study out: http://www.wiglafjournal.com/pricing/2009/06/if-a-business-lets-you-pay-what-you-want-could-it-survive/

(Also I say tentatively, while Valve/Bethesda aren't forcing us now, they could be in the future with take-down notices on Nexus and other sites. That's why everyone's so shaky, this could kill the modding community.)

Thank you again and good luck with your future mods!

@Brezlon

I'll very likely wait a week or two until the dust settles. In the meantime, I'm going to spend my sweet time on this new mod to make sure that everyone gets more than their money's worth. If I'm gonna sell my mods, I'm not going to half-ass it. I'm going to give the community something wonderful. :)

A donation button would be great and I would be glad to put that on all my mods if given the option. I hope that Steam will give us that option, and if they do give us that option to donate rather than charge money for download, it's likely that I'll go for the donation button for all my mods. I'm actually excited to see how this will change the modding community. Valve and Bethesda are not forcing us to do anything; The decision to charge for cetain mods is made by the modders themselves, like me.

As for the Nexus; I'll consider it :D

Jamey, thank you for keeping this free. That's wonderful.

I know you have your own stance of things but can I recommend wholeheartedly to avoid putting up any paid mods on Steam in the next few weeks? At least allow this to blow over & hopefully they work on a donation button instead. A lot of the paid mods atm are sadly being pirated & distributed around the net. I wouldn't want your hard work to go that way, esp with people then flagging you as a greedy modder. :(

I think people would gladly donate than be faced with a paywall. I recommend to put it on Nexus since there's already a donate button there. Just ask more politely "If you like this, please donate. ANY amount will do, even a few cents!"

(When people have an option to not pay, but can donate, it's a fact some people will pay MORE out of generosity!)

@Brezlon Absolutely. It will always and forever remain free. :) I have no plans on charging money for any of the mods I have currently on the workshop that began as free. However, I am currently working on a paid mod that adds a chef who sells various food and new food items at a farm market outside of Solitude, which I will sell at a very cheap price of $0.25. Even when I do make paid mods, I will make sure that they won't cost much at all :)

Pardon to ask during such a crazy time, but will this mod stay free? It's so neat.
