Description
This mod adds cultural borders to fortresses expanded one tile away. This mod will allow you to claim resources or expand your borders without building cities you don't want to have. You can also now support battle lines far outside of your territory, by building a fortress to protect a pass or strategic point.

Features:
- Once built, a fort tile and all adjacent tiles will belong to the player who built it
- If a fort is unoccupied for 5 turns, the land will return to nature as long as it is not within 5 plots of a city.
- If a fort has been unoccupied and lost ownership, any player can occupy it by placing a unit inside.
- If a fort is ever occupied by an enemy unit, the enemy player will gain control of the fort and land around it.
- Forts now cost 1 gold per turn to maintain.

Future features:
- Citadels will have borders expanded up to two tiles away.
- A fort built near or in enemy territory will expand borders only if there is no enemy fort nearby.


Patch Notes

Patch 1:
- Citadels will now have cultural borders as well
- A fort built near friendly territory will not expand borders into that friendly territory.

Patch 2:
- Fixed a bug where forts were not expanding borders on some versions of Civ

Patch 3:
- Set fort cost per turn to 3g
- Set Citadel cost per turn to 5g

I no longer need to settle down in the middle of north pole just for that sweet sweet 1 Uranium anymore. Thnak you.

Here's an idea, to make it simplier and more balanced: allow ONLY the great general's citadel to be placed outside of player's territory (same rules as your fort - occupied / unoccupied etc... but 3 or 4g per turn).

That's all we need to have something like IRL military advance post or strategic base keeping any resource ...

Isn't working for me, I can build fortresses outside of my territory but no border appears

Mod doesn't seem to work correctly. You're unable to build forts outside of your borders.

Being able to build forts in enemy terrority thus claiming their land sounds kinda broken. Though if the AI can also do it to you that could get interesting.
