This mod adds cultural borders to fortresses expanded one tile away. This mod will allow you to claim resources or expand your borders without building cities you don't want to have. You can also now support battle lines far outside of your territory, by building a fortress to protect a pass or strategic point.

- Once built, a fort tile and all adjacent tiles will belong to the player who built it
- If a fort is unoccupied for 5 turns, the land will return to nature as long as it is not within 5 plots of a city.
- If a fort has been unoccupied and lost ownership, any player can occupy it by placing a unit inside.
- If a fort is ever occupied by an enemy unit, the enemy player will gain control of the fort and land around it.
- Forts now cost 1 gold per turn to maintain.

Future features:
- Citadels will have borders expanded up to two tiles away.
- A fort built near or in enemy territory will expand borders only if there is no enemy fort nearby.

Patch Notes

Patch 1:
- Citadels will now have cultural borders as well
- A fort built near friendly territory will not expand borders into that friendly territory.

Patch 2:
- Fixed a bug where forts were not expanding borders on some versions of Civ

Patch 3:
- Set fort cost per turn to 3g
- Set Citadel cost per turn to 5g

just a suggestion that would be very cool. make it so that you can airlift units to and from citadels and forts

the last game i played i used this mod and for some reason citadels kept switching cultural borders randomly around the map. for example a couple turns after one civ was completely defeated, a citadel that used to be next to their former city changed to then becoming owned by them even though they no longer existed in the game. also a few times, citadels in which i never stepped foot in came under my control all the way across the map for several turns. not a big deal, but what's up with that?

Can't download this mod, shows numbers downloaded, then stuck at 'transferring', nothing in the mod folder and deleting the Civ5ModsDatabase.db from the cache does not help...

Does anyone have a workaround?

I with this mod only affected the citadel and not the fort.

If you build a fort, then work the tiles, which of your cities get the food and production?

Would you possibly consider the ability to station aircraft at forts?
