Salt Tweak - Alternate

Description
Salt is a little too strong early in the default game. When improved, it produces more yields than any other luxury except gems. Not only that, but a majority of those yields aren’t just gold, they’re the more powerful ones, food and production. When it’s present on a plains tile, it has very high yields.

There are two ways bonus yields are applied to a resource upon improvement.

1) The resource receives its bonus from the improvement type, which isn’t resource-specific. This is the case with things like mines and farms, since these improvements not only improve resources, they also improve regular tiles as well and need to have a bonus built into them.

2) The resource receives its bonus from improving itself, which is a unique combination of the improvement type and resource type. This is the case with things like plantations and fishing boats, since these improvements only improve resources and aren’t allowed to be placed on regular tiles.

Luxuries normally pick one method or the other. This isn’t the case with salt, and it may have been overlooked during development. Salt receives the +1P from the mine used to improve it AND +1F for improving it.

I’ve included some comparisons in the chart above. Copper shows how a mine luxury normally receives its bonus yields from a regular improvement. Crab and citrus show how a luxury normally receives its bonus yields from a special improvement.

I’ve modded salt so that the +1F from improving the resource is removed and only the bonus from the mine is applied. This mod is an alternative to my original Salt Tweak mod if you wish for the mine improvement to add its intended production yield to the resource, instead of another food yield.

They used to use salt as a currency in the Roman Republic.

I had a similar idea: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=145306648
My mod removed the +1 food from salt's base yield, and then added it back with the Granary. So salt's base yield is +1 gold, then +1 production with mine, and +1 food with Granary. The final yield is the same, but the player needs to do a little extra work for the reward.

Thanks, lockstep. Yeah, when I get around to updating this one, I'll change the in-game title too.

After you have updated all your other great mods, you should update the in-game title of this mod (it still displays "Salt Tweak 2").

Subsribed. The current title could be mistaken for a version number, though -- how about "Less food from salt"?
