I've made an updated version that fixes the bugs in this map and adds LudiKRIS map-size support. You can get the new version HERE

Each player starts on his or her own oasis in the midst of a barren desert. All the food and wood on this map is clumped around a few sources of water – oases (yes, that is the plural of oasis; I did not know that either until I looked it up for this map).
Venture into the desert and you face wolves and desolation, but if you are lucky, you might find some gold or stone, or an uninhabited oasis.
Hoard your wood, it's rather precious on this map.

I have tested this random map script quite a bit, and it works well, just don’t try to play with 8 players on a tiny map.
The forest and lake distribution in starting oases is not always equal, but the way I see it, it sort of balances out. If you have no water, then it means no fishing, but it also means you get a lot of extra wood.

To play choose the following when setting up a match:
Map style – Custom
Location – Desert Oases v1.1

As always, feedback is welcome. Did I get the resource balance right? Are you spawning in an enclosed forest? Tell me what you think and if there is anything I should improve!

That explains it - back when I made this map I didn't own AoF and so I couldn't test it on LudiKRIS size.
I think this summer I'm going to go through and update all my maps to include full LudiKRIS support (ie. adding more resources by map size and making sure they all function as planned on LudiKRIS). Thanks for letting me know about this, I'll see what I can do when I update the map.

Well, It happened with me... I ended up on an island too once. And the size is LudiKRIS... always LudiKRIS

@Reaper8U - They end up on islands? I've never seen that happen before ... did you play on a really large map size?
In any case, I think there should always be connections across the water. I'll look into it and see if I can recreate the problem.

Eh... There is some problems with this map when against AI. If they end up on islands in the oases they won't expand that much up to at least moderate difficulty. And they won't use ships to get across the water if there is no other way

I've played with the AI on Black Forest + Rivers (and BF+ROpen). It seems to do fine on those maps as well as Gravel Pit.

@DaWasabi - that's interesting - it shouldn't be possible to be walled in by trees, because they are replaced by connections, but having the connections clogged up by berries is something I never thought of.
How is the AI functioning for you on other maps? Because at the moment there are a lot of AI problems with AIs not advancing past feudal, and maybe that was what was preventing the berry gathering ....

In any case, I will try increasing the connection width to prevent this in the future

PS: Do you have a screenshot of this?

When i tried to play this map with the AI, it was trapped in its Oasis by its Berries. And for some reason it never got its berries, so it couldn't ever get to it's gold. The AI never got out of Feudal age. Seems like you can actually get walled in by resources, and not just the trees.
