Introduction

Hello everyone, ZeroArmada here. Just a quick introduction about myself, I have played Blacklight Retribution on the PC since it had launched into closed beta 2 back in 2011. I feel with the various experiences I have had in both a casual and competitive environment in Blacklight has given me a great understanding on how weapons behave and how to fully get the best out of a weapon receiver

Ultimately, this guide is about you, the reader. Ideally, this isn't meant to be a shopping list of "OMG THE BEST PARTZ", or "DIZ IS DA MOST OP STUFF" or anything like that. These are the builds that I have found useful to my own play-style. What I hope you all take out of this is some of the small intricacies and the methodical skills needed to build a gun that best suits your own needs and play-style. I encourage users to try out the builds I have provided with an understanding that these builds are more of a template to further build upon with your own personal adjustments. At the end of the day, if at the very least there is an greater understanding of some of the analytical parts towards building a weapon by the reader, then my mission is accomplished.

Please keep in mind this guide is a work in progress, things will change and content will be added when I have the time to work on it and as the game evolves. Thanks for your understanding.

Thanks for checking out the guide, and feel free to comment if you have any questions.

Consider The Following
Before we get started, let us first get to really understand what we are trying to accomplish here. First and foremost, what are you trying to accomplish with your custom weapon? With the detailed customization that Blacklight provides, your weapon could take on a specific role that makes it an ideal weapon based on certain situation.

Some of the roles I feel are prevalent in terms of custom weapon builds are as followed:
  • High damage - Weapon builds that generally have high damage, making them kill enemies in a swift amount of time. Generally these builds are harder to aim and control for a sustained amount of time due to the spread and recoil penalties that are traded with the higher damage weapon components.
  • Ease of use - Weapon builds that generally sacrifice damage for less spread and less recoil, which results in the weapon being easier to shoot and control for a sustained amount of time.
  • Speed - Usually consists of weapon builds with faster reload speeds, faster scope-in times, and contribute a minimal amount in terms of a speed penalty
  • Utility - Weapons that are built to accomplish a certain job in objective based game-play. For example, a high fire rate gun paired with an electric magazine provides for great suppression versus a spider tank in Siege mode.
  • Other - Doesn't necessarily fit a particular role.

Generally weapons built fall under one of these particular roles. Now back to our question, what do you want to accomplish when building your own weapon? I can't really stress that amount of self reflection that needs to come with that question.

In order to really gauge what type of weapon role best suits you, ask yourself these questions and refer to my analysis for what type of role may best suit you for a weapon build:
  • Play-style: Are you an aggressive player? Are you one that likes to catch players by surprise? Do you take a defensive approach?
  • Preferred Maps: Do you prefer long range maps? Do you prefer close quarters combat? Do you prefer medium sized maps? Are you a hardcore Horde mode player? Do you mainly play Siege mode and/or Netwar maps?
  • Skill: How confident are you in your aiming? Are you able to consistently get kills or are you an inconsistent player at times? Do you have trouble killing players quickly?

Primarily, I think these questions are what you really want to consider when looking to build a weapon. Additionally, there are a lot of other mediums and methods that can be used a reference when building a weapon. For example, personal experience in game can be a wealth of knowledge for crafting weapons. Experiment. Try out other players builds when they get killed and see what works for them and consider if that particular build suits your own role and needs. Asking other players for their own opinions and building and their own weapons can give you insight to how another person thinks when building weapons as well.

Before we move on to the next part, I would recommend you answer the questions I listed above and consider what type of weapon role would best fit your needs in terms of play-style, preferred map choice, and skill level.

You know, he wrote in the introduction section that these builds were based on his play-style, not some OP best build of all time. If you want OP weapons, you will have better luck finding on Combat Arms.

You may not recall, but in one of your videos, you used an Assault Rifle build with Briar Composite LBiV, Vulcan R19 Rift, quick mag, and V2 Folding CQC/B. I use that same build but with the Silverwood ELO-CONS scope. My K/D ratio has been the highest it has ever been thanks to that build. Thank you for the advice. I wish you luck in college.
