Endless Space has this feature that lets you replay or share your generated maps. Every Galaxy you generate gets a Galaxy Generation Seed Number (GGS) unique to it. If you use that you can use it to replay another game on the same generated map or share it with your friends.
Your Home planet stays the same as long as you play the same faction.
All constellations, connections and stars will be the same.
The same goes for the planets and wonders.
You need the Galaxy Generation Seed and the same Galaxy Settings (Size, density, form, ect.) in order to get exactly the same galaxy.
If you use different Settings in the Options when creating the galaxy, there will be variations. The severity of the variations depends on how much they differ from the original settings used to create the GGS. Pirate density will have no effect for example, while a different form can cause a lot of variation.
This is the explanation from the Manual:
Random galaxy generation seed Disabling this option will use the number written below the checkbox to generate the galaxy map. Using the same generation seed allows you to try out the same galaxy and player start with different factions, for instance. You can also give that number to a friend instead of a save file if you want them to play with the same galaxy generation as you! During a game, you can find the galaxy generation seed number in the game options.
How to find a GGS from a savegame
The easy and quick way:
click to em-biggen
Load the Save of the Galaxy you want the GGS from.
Open your menu as you would to save. (Hit "Esc"-Key)
Your GGS will be in the lower right corner of your screen.
Then just share it with whoever you want.
Dont forget to share the Galaxy Settings, or the one you share with will be unable to create the same galaxy. . ____________________________________________________________________________
Alternative Method to find the GGS in your Savegame directly:
Only do this when you have a clue of what youre doing. You need 7zip to open the save files: http://www.7-zip.org/
Open your save file directory: ..:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Endless Space\Save or if you have the Disharmony Expansion: ..:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Endless Space\Disharmony\Save
Select the appropiate File you want the GGS from and open it with 7zip.
Open up the data file with a Text Editor of your choice.
Search (Ctrl+F) for "Seed"
The number behind the word "Seed" is the GGS.
How to use a GGS you have to generate a Galaxy
click to em-biggen
Start a new game from the Main Menu.
Click on "advanced settings" and scroll down to the end.
Uncheck the box named "Random galaxy generation seed"
Under it is the GGS box where you fill in the GGS you want to use.
Getting exactly the same Galaxy, needs the same options and the seed.
Now launch the game.
To get the same Galaxy, the SHAPE - SIZE - AGE and everything in the ADVANCED GALAXY TAB needs to be the same settings the seed number was created with!
See the images below to see what needs to be the same. If you differ there you can get alterations depending on what is different.
The GGS sets the galaxy generation options according to the settings you choose when you create the game, as long as you have the "random"-Box in the Advanced Settings unticked. . . You can change the factions and their number to your liking, they dont alter the seed. The Faction colors define the starting position in the galaxy.
The race you choose can alter the composition of the planets in your starting system. That means if you choose purple, once with Amoeba and once with Sophons, everything will be the same, but the home system planets will be different. If you use the same race with another color, your starting position in that specific galaxy will change, the home system planets will stay the same. .
