Recording program guide for SF2
By LARRY and 1 collaborators
This guide is a compilation of settings for programs that we have found to work well and BETTER than the SF2 ingame recorder. Please note that your FPS should be 15 or lower for max. performance during tourneys and no higher than 30 if you are going to upload your video to youtube.

OBS

OBS is a very reliable recording program used mainly for streaming, but did you know it can record and capture to raw file as well? Our teammate dsata has outline the best way to to set up OBS to give you the best FPS possible while running SF2:

UPDATE 7/13/2013: Any OBS version past 0.522 will be detected as an unauthorized program by XIGNCODE.

1. Download/Install OBS *RUN OBS AS ADMINISTRATOR
http://obsproject.com/download

2. Right click in 'Scenes' box, select 'Add Scene', enter name

3. Right click in 'Sources' box, highlight add, select 'Game Capture', enter name

4. Game capture options should have popped up after naming, select 'Use Hotkey', set a hotkey

NOTE* if you're playing SF2 at a different resolution/aspect ratio than what you're outputting you may want to also check 'Stretch image to screen' and 'Ignore aspect ratio'

5. Basic Settings:
Encoding - To find your recommended 'Max Bitrate' + 'Buffer Size' is check out http://obsproject.com/estimator . If the recommendation doesn't work out for you alter the bitrate/buffer till it looks/feels good

Broadcast Settings - To find your stream key go to http://www.twitch.tv/broadcast and click 'Show key'

Video - Set your resolution to what you want to be outputting, you may need to downscale resolution/lower FPS if you're computer is having trouble streaming

6. Start streaming, when you do you'll notice your output/preview is black, make SF2 the focused window (click on it) and press the hotkey you assigned in step 4

Determine if your game/stream are playable/viewable, if not, adjust settings so it all looks pretty n ♥♥♥♥.

7. In order to capture gameplay instead of streaming, simply go into Broadcast settings and change your "mode" to File Output Only

Dxtory
Dxtory has largely outperformed Fraps as the recording software gamers prefer in the FPS market. With an option to hook into OBS and stream at the same time, Dxtory is our number 2 pick for the best recording software while playing SF2.

Download link: http://download.cnet.com/Dxtory/3000-13633_4-10705596.html

1. Install Dxtory and run it as administrator.

2. On the "Overlay Settings" have your check boxes check as follows:

3. On the Folder Setting tab click on the "Add folder" icon to choose a directory to save your video, make sure you have a large enough HDD!

4. On the HotKey Setting tab, make sure you set a hotkey for "Start/Stop movie capture":

5. On the Movie Setting tab, make sure you have the following settings as per the screenshot:

*If you are lagging, reduce the FPS to 15
**DO NOT USE LAGORITH CODEC, XIGNCODE WILL DETECT THIS AS A 3RD PARTY PROGRAM AND KICK YOU OUT.

6. On the Audio tab, leave the default settings.

7. On the screenshot tab, leave the default settings.

8. On the Adv. settings tab, leave the default settings.

9. On the Global Settings tab, leave default settings.

10. Finally, click the yellow box on the bottom left to bring up your video settings. On output 1, make sure your resolution matches your monitor resolution and the frame rate is the same as step 5.

Bandicam
Bandicam is another recording software that I personally like due to it not being taxing on your system and it also has a preset for low-end PCs, which is perfect for recording for tournament matches.

Download link: http://www.bandicam.com/downloads/

1. Download and install Bandicam

2. Run the program, on the general tab set your output folder to where you want your recordings to go to:

3. On the FPS tab, make sure you do not check "Set FPS limit":

4. On the Video tab, make sure you set a hotkey for record/stop and click on "Presets"

5. On the drop down list from presets, make sure you pick "Low-end PC" for the performance during tournament matches. If you are recording for editing footage, than feel free to pick something else.

Fraps
Fraps is pretty much a default and well known program that everyone knows how to use and is considered pretty reliable. If you can handle the gigantic file sizes when recording, then you can't go wrong with FRAPS.

Download link: http://www.fraps.com/download.php

1. Download and install fraps.

2. Run the Program as an Admin.

3. Head over the Movies tab. Set up your video capture hotkey and set a folder to output your video. You can set up a custom FPS as well. I recommend 10-15 for tournament play and 30 for normal recordings (due to youtube capping all videos at 30 FPS).
