What's up with Lacuna Passage?
GDC Mega Update!
Release date: 2016
Lacuna Passage is a story-driven exploration and survival game set on Mars, drawing inspiration from titles like Dear Esther, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and even Pokemon Snap. You play as Jessica Rainer, the only survivor of the crashed Heracles mission, investigating the disappearance of the first ever manned mission to Mars. You have several tools at your disposal, but most important are your skills of observation. You will need to uncover mission logs, recorded audio files, and other physical clues left behind at critical mission locations in order to discover the truth.

There are 25 square miles of open terrain around the crash site for you to explore, and in order to find the missing crew of the Hermes you won’t want to explore blindly. You must carefully manage your vital resources or you will find yourself stranded in the great red wasteland with no food, water, or oxygen. Time and nature are your enemies in Lacuna Passage.

  • Terrain generated from actual Mars satellite data.
  • Survival mechanics based on real metrics like blood glucose, heart rate, caloric intake, and more.
  • In-game photography that allows you to capture any moment and document your discoveries.
  • An immersive HUD that is accurate to potential future space exploration physical display technologies.
  • A hauntingly beautiful dynamic soundtrack that responds to your actions.
  • A mysterious single-player story that encourages non-linear play.
  • Oculus Rift support

@Moonpies. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Just to give you some background, our greenlight page has about 1 visitor a day on average. We do have a little more than 2,000 followers which would be notified if we posted an update, but my impression of Steam followers is that they are more interested in knowing when a game is close to release rather than seeing a constant stream of development progress updates. I could be wrong, but that is my impression. I will make an effort to do a better job of updating our Announcements page here, but it will still be much less often than our Kickstarter page or website just due to the nature of the audience. Thanks again.

Just found this, and it looks pretty interesting. Hope to see some updates here soon.

As for your comment regarding the reason you haven't really updated here: While I can understand that the Kickstarter backers are currently funding your project, to alienate thosefollowing you and voting on Steam because they have not funded your Kickstarter is a kick in the teeth. Do you realize how many people there are in the Steam community? To say that people over at Kickstarter are more important than millions of potential PAYING players, is quite self-centered. You would have tons more people willing to pay for this seemingly promising game, if you actually embraced every community backing you.

@sharpnova, Sorry about the lack of communication here. Honestly, and this is going to sound lame, but Steam's announcement interface is just a huge pain in the ass for formating. We are only two full-time team members so we are spread pretty thin and there just isn't very much player engagement on a Greenlight page that has already been accepted. I will try to do a better job updating the announcements in the future, but every hour spent updating pages beyond what we owe to our paying Kickstarter backers or website visitors is an hour not spent working on developing the game. Hope you understand, and thanks for your interest in the game :)

Why won't you update the information here? Steam is obviously the most convenient visit for people keeping their eye on multiple games.

I don't want to track a bunch of different websites for this information.

Steam is very convenient for a lot of things and this is an obvious one of them.

I'm kinda excited about this. I like the concept of the new Mars movie so this is in that same ball park. There was another game where you are stranded on Mars anyone have any idea if this is it?

Guys, just remember the devs are much more recent updates on their blog. Its updated more often than Steam so don't fret if you haven't seen a steam update for a while. :)
