Top 5 Half Life mods
By John Spaztic
A while ago, I made a guide for the top 5 Half Life 2 modifications. As of now, it has over 1000 views and counting. Considering that I started with Half Life 2, why not go back to the original and give its mods some recognition eh?
*EDIT* ok, in case you are only reading this now, or just haven't realised, the first list was rubbish. After several people have given me their suggestions, I am now remaking the list completely, and not including any of the mods on this list in the new list.
Similar to the other list that I have made, there are rules. 1. Only Half Life mods. No Half Life 2, Source, or any other mods 2. Only mods that I've played 3. This is my opinion. 4. Becase the original list was fairly bad, I am remaking the list but will not be including any of the original entries. 5. In addition to that, I will not be counting retail mods now. So that means no Team Fortress Classic, Day Of Defeat or Cry Of Fear Without further ado, let's get started
Brainbread This zombie multiplayer mod boosts action packed fast pasted gameplay. While feeling a bit like L4D but for the Half Life engine, this mod is still alive today. With addictive gameplay, Brainbread will keep you playing for hours. With a serious undertone and backstory, if you can call it that, intelligent AI, the abitlity to become a zomie and other great additions to this mod make it number 5 on this list. Firearms This World War multiplayer shooter sports real locations, period weapons and a fairly realistic system of what you have to do if you get hurt. Although there is not an exetremely active community, the addon MarineBot puts bots into the game which are actually intelligent. Unlike Counter Strike Source, the bots are constanly watching your back and are not running into walls, like they do in other bot addons. The mod on ModDB : http://www.moddb.com/mods/firearms
Paranoia This mod puts you in the shoes of a Russian special forcs soldier who is insstructed to eliminate some terrorists. And everything goes fine. Until you and your team are attacked by some zombies. This mod is one of the more creepy mods for Half Life out there, and the fact that the original game had no English voiceovers made it even creepier. There is an English version now, but if you're looking for some extra creepiness, I suggest getting the original mod. Paranoia homepage : http://paranoia.level-design.ru/index_eng.htm
They Hunger Quite possibly the funniest mod on this list, They Hunger starts off with you finding a curch, an umbrella, and a graveyard full of zombies. Like Half Life 2, this mod is split up into several episodes, but the quality stays consistent. Unlike Half Life 2, this mod throws cheesy voice acting and weapons which you would never think could crack a few undead skulls. Sven Co-op I haven't gone very far into this amazing mod, but already I am wondering why Valve hasn't hired the developers and made this a retail game. This multiplayer mod is similar to Obsidian Conflict in the way that if you think of a scenario, wheather it's first person Pac-Man, a big game of betting, prison breaks or even movie reinactments, they will probably have been made. With an active community, even today, this mod is well worth your time. Grab a couple of friends and give this mod a go. The official website : http://www.svencoop.com/
