Laser Troll

Simple map that has caused many people to give up or kick themselves once they figure it out.

Special thanks to SevenSilhouette, Solid Jim, and YellowFist for testing... and retesting... and testing some more... LOL

Quick but good

I played another test chamber using this method. Wish I could remember whose it was. So, if you made an older one using this method, it was you. But, I don't think it was you. Anyway, fun puzzle.

Nice! Yeah, what you were trying to do has been done by a couple others with far more patience than myself.

Thanks for checking out my maps!

BTW, prototype's solution to get the cube off the lift wasn't going to be necessary at all if my solution with the camera balancing act was going to work. Since the cube on the lift is a slight angle, it's possible to portal on the wall next to the catcher near the ground and activate it. Then it's possible to balance the cube on the cameras so that it goes up through that portal and out of the portal on the far wall, crossing the room upward at an angle into the higher catcher. My attempt was only about five inches away! But nudging the cube caused it to fall and I didn't feel like reloading :)

Thumbs up for an interesting idea. I have to admit that I didn't solve it myself though. As the other players noted, I too played around with the cameras and actually got very close but eventually gave up. Then I read Prototype's first spoiler comment and was able to solve the puzzle as intended in like two seconds. :) Nice job.

@piotr_mil Yes, it was done without cheating. It just requires a lot of patience and quicksave/load. As the lift moves up and down the cube randomly bounces and eventually bounces off, if done right (with lots of luck) it will land the right way.

The new cube in the dropper will fall that way every time you play the map. I had to test which wall it was naturally aimed at before placing the laser receptacle though. It's acutally slightly off-center of 90 degrees, but close enough.

Sorry, I typed the comment in wrong map. A very, very, very tricky puzzle. Once you find the solution, you truly shout: What a troll! One question, though: is the new cube in the receiver always facing ideally at 90 deg angle, or there is some error possible? I'm genuinely curious how it's done. .
@Prototype: That is master level of cube manoeuvring. A thousand internets to you, if its really done without cheating. I also tried balancing the only free cube on a security camera, so it would redirect a beam, but I ultimately found it impossible for me.

Wow, nicely done!

Here's a screenshot of my alternate solution: link I think I know the intended way using the extra cube in the dropper but that feels like cheating, so I found another way to solve. My solution consists of getting the cube off the lift (switch lift on and off, so cube bounces off) facing the right way (trial and error, with some skill). Then I just balanced the cube on the security camera to hit the other reciever.
