Xvoid - Update
Description
Release date: Spring/Summer 2013
X Void is a retro Jump N' Run scroller in an open world full of shortcuts and secrets. At the beginning you can only jump, run and shoot. Later powerups include different weapons and items that increase your movement abilities. What began as a small project resulted in a complexe game taking hundreds of hours to draw every sprite, create every sound and do all the programming. After showing the game to a few friends I have decided to present it to the community.

You can play with keyboard or joypad and customize the controls. The game has a save function, a map system and an ingame counter for speedrunners. I was inspired by my all time favourite games Castlevania Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid. I have always been a huge fan of retro games in general. The game is close to completion. I am working on the overall balancing at the moment. If you like the game please spread the word and help me to release it by voting on steam.

Metroid, Mega Man X, and its 16-bit platforming ilk def. worked b/c of the upgrade system. However, they also have an element missing from this trailer. Story may not have been the highlight of those games, but it was def. present. A memorable soundtrack also brought some of those story pts to life.
Interesting homebrew for those w/ a longing for old-school punishment, but w/o a meaningful story and engaging soundtrack, I might as well just go for a bullet hell if I just wanted a hard game.

Not a definite "yes" from me yet, but I do see potential so I'll go with "ask me later" and will check it out again after you've had more time to work on it.

One thing that shouldn't take too long to fix but definitely needs to go is the horrid font for the logo/box art. It looks very tacky the way it is right now and was almost enough to make me instantly downvote since it looks like a lot of troll games. I'm sure you can come up with something more appealing.

Found it interesting. I've been looking for a long time for a Metroid-Style videogame...
Music is OK, little bit disturbing but retro, I love and hate it at the same time. But graphics look bad. It's not the same "retro" and "ugly". You should improve the desings, maps, and all that... But hey, it's not a bad idea at all, just work hard and you may create a very good game!
