Cortona Pro - Bomb/Defuse

de_cortona_pro is a bomb/defuse map based on several old and historical towns in Tuscany, northern Italy. The inspiration was mainly drawn from the following cities: Cortona, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pistoia and Siena. This is not an accurate recreation as I took the creative freedom to merge several elements from real life counterparts into one old town in the map.

The map features many authentic aspects from the above towns: The coat of arms of Tuscany on the town hall, the coat of arms of Cortona on the old castle and town hall, the church and outer walls of Monteriggioni, the tower and gate of San Gimignano, the town hall of Cortona, the well of Montepulciano, the monastery of Pistoia and many others. Some landmarks were faithfully recreated in-game while others served as an inspiration to create something similar in the map.

I kept getting requests to remake cortona for CSGO (initially released for CSS in 2012) and I was planning on doing it later on, since I am already working on 2 new maps for CSGO. However, I was able to find some time in between these 2 new maps to rework cortona and I was able to finish the remastered version in 4 weeks during March 2013.

The map is highly detailed and realistic to mimic the visuals of an old medieval town in Tuscany.

The layout is the classic figure of 8, made popular by dust/dust2. It's easy to remember and navigate through while offering plenty of tactical options for both sides. The timings and distances in the map are very close to the ones in dust2, which is an extra bonus for competitive play (a reduction in overall details could be done in a second version if needed).

The map is fully optimized and the high FPS is consistent all around, providing smooth & fluid gameplay. Gameplay flow is optimized by heavily implementing clip brushes to ensure a hassle-free motion for players.

The map has:
- 64 spawn points (32 vs. 32)
- Loading screen & 2 radars (1 grayscale radar for actual gameplay and 1 colored for spectating)
- Kv file (GIGN vs Separatists)
- 3D skybox (includes actual Tuscan landscape)
- Particles & Soundscapes
- custom textures
- HDR with tonemap control and color correction
- Manually-tuned Nav file with place names

I really hope you enjoy this map as much as I did creating and testing it.

I have released a competitive edition of de_cortona focusing on balanced 5vs5 competitive play with guidance, directions and feedback of Sal "Volcano" Garozzo.

This competitive version is a bit different from the regular one as it was tweaked with the help of competitive guru "Volcano" to be suited for fast, balanced competitive matches.
