Wander to use CRYENGINE®
What does this mean for players

Current players would have noticed there was no new release last month. Partly that was because we had a few days off for New Years and the holidays but it was also because we're working on the new version. There is going to be a bit of delay before the first new release is out.

The new version of Wander will use a lot less memory, run on less hardware and be a lot more beautiful. The most important thing is that the new engine gives us tools to get thing done quickly, meaning we can add more content. The screenshot above is running faster and smoother that the previous version of Wander, while also looking very pretty. We've only just started and we've got a long way to go but it's going to be an amazing journey.

There is a downside to this. CRYENGINE has no Mac support. If you've got a Mac and have already purchased Wander and don't want to play on Windows or Linux, please contact us about getting a refund.

Wander coming to PS4, nominated for Best Narrative

Wander: Welcome To The Rainforest

Beta is available now from our site, wanderthegame.com.

Wander is a collaborative, non-combat, non-competitive MMO game focused on exploration and joy.

As you explore, you begin to discover others in the the sprawling rainforest. Working together, you unlock new experiences, piece together the plot and enjoy the varied beauty that Wander has to offer.

Wander features a gorgeous landscape, large scale non-competitive play and immersive sound design to create a world like no other.

  • Huge rainforest to explore
  • Award nominated narrative
  • Detailed sound design, with 3 acclaimed opera singers
  • Focus on collaborative exploration
  • No server browser, everyone playing on the same server (single sharded MMO)
  • Oculus Rift Support (with runtime switching)

Wander is available for Windows and Linux. Wander is coming to PS4 in 2014.

Press Reactions:

Conceptually, the whole thing almost strikes me as a greener, more freeform Journey. And so far, the first planet looks like it escaped from the explosions and dumbness factory in James Cameron’s brain with natural beauty full intact, so that’s promising. I want to explore!
- Nathan Grayson; Rock, Paper, Shotgun

The 64km-square world is full of landmarks to catch the eye and secrets to discover, all of it rendered in astonishing detail. I'm not usually the kind of gamer who gets all hot and heavy about graphics, but Wander really is beautiful to behold.
- Michael Irving, MMGN

Personally, I can’t wait to meet you all in creature form, this seems like it could be a wonderful experience!
- Chris Priestman, IndieStatik describing the alpha as beauteous.

I’m excited by the prospect of (peaceful collaborative multiplayer title) Wander, then, the game that finally, finally lets you be a tree. And also a griffin. And, naturally, a sea creature too.
- Tom Sykes, PC Gamer

Awards:

Nominated for Best Narrative and received an honourable mention for Best Art and Best Design - FreePlay 2013.
Nominated for Best Accessible Game - Australian Game Developer Awards.
Nominated for Best Graphics - hóPLAY 2013 (Spain)

Looks amazingly fun and a open world to explore the areas beyond of the rainforest, worth a try to play when released.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, we're very happy to be greenlit! grantbagwell: We support the first Rift kit, and will support DK2 as soon as we get one.

I vote for a kitsune form! Either as a spirit or a feral fox, that'd be amazing. :D Being able to change between the forms at will would be fantastic as well.

Stan: in a few earlier comments I mentioned a few of the other mechanics, sheltering from storms, using the fireflies / jelly fish to communicate over distances and at night, finding the lore stones and understanding the narrative and exploring together. Playing with others is a big focus for us, and it's a fair point that the videos we have at the moment don't show that enough at the moment. We're planning to put a few more up demoing how the communication mechanics work with the fireflies.
