Description
The Source Heart Chronicles: Community Call to Arms will be a unique, free-to-play, Fan-Fiction Mod/MMORPG based on all the Source Games you’ve ever played and loved. Only now, they are in mortal danger of being destroyed, and it’s up to you to save them. How? Picture the following scenario:

As you log into Steam, a News Update popup appears, inviting you to beta test a new Source-based MMORPG that is being developed for the Steam Community. Curious, you accept the invitation and download the game. When you launch it, you are asked to select your favorite Source Game and to build a character in that world.

Once your character is created, you enter the game and begin leveling it through a quest line similar to what you would expect from your favorite Source Game. But as you complete your missions for the iconic Source Characters, or Source Denizens, you seem to notice that your character begins to exhibit strange abilities, like the ability to create portals with your bare hands, summon zombies and aliens to fight for you, and even conjure healing items for your allies. The iconic Source Denizens soon recognize you as an “Outsider,” or player, and inform you that you are a in control of a character that possesses a Source Heart, a device that can bend the very Source itself to your will without having to tap into the SDK to do so. They implore you to save the Source Engine from total destruction at the hands of a long time nemesis.

At that moment, you receive a very urgent communication from none other than Gabe Newell himself, asking you to go on a mission of importance on his behalf. Soon, the other Valve Employees contact you with critical missions of their own, sending you and fellow Source Hearts to different Source Worlds to aid them in recovering stolen source code, dialogue scripts, and other important files from hackers who have managed to break into Valve’s infrastructure in an effort to sabotage the Source Engine and the Steam Platform.

At first, you think you are fighting just human hackers, but it soon becomes painfully clear that the hacker armada is comprised of both outside humans and evil Source Denizens who have aligned themselves with a rogue entity named Dr. Cortez, a long time, secret enemy of Valve who plans to destroy the Source Engine from the inside out – and take our reality with it. Even worse, to show he’s serious, he’s taken a fellow Steam User hostage and dragged her into the Source Worlds to be executed for her actions against him.

Even the Combine, knowing what would happen if Valve released Half-Life 3, have managed to breach into our reality just enough to recruit hackers of their own to stop Gabe and his team from continuing their legendary franchise, and you and Gordon Freeman are the only ones who stand between them and their diabolical schemes.

Suddenly, it dawns on you. You’re not just playing a game anymore. Both the Valve Team and the Steam Community are fighting a full-scale war against Dr. Cortez, his vile minions, and other villains. You realize that you are not only fighting to protect the Source Engine, but to protect your own reality from being destroyed. Will your efforts be enough to stop the chaos? Or will the Source Worlds and our reality be obliterated by it?

To arms, Community! Save the Source Engine! Save the Real World!

So, without further delay, here are the concept documents, which will provide more detail on the background behind the Source Heart Chronicles. Please keep in mind that this is a fictional account of events ... or is it? Nonetheless, No Valve Employees or Steam Users were harmed in the making of this fan-fiction; fictional doubles were put in their place to prevent unforeseen consequences. But Dr. Cortez got a good smack down and was harmed many times during the production. In fact, he was made into a punching bag and a chew toy for Antlion Guards... several times.

General Overview of the Source Heart Chronicles Fan-Fiction

Part One: The Steam Mythos
(Warning: The Creation Myth Section has a touch of strong language. But on the plus side, the Valve Employees create the world. Epic stuff. ‘nuff said.)

Part Two: Source Heart Technology and Notes

Part Three: Introducing New and Reborn Characters

Part Four: Synopses of the Source Heart Chronicles Fan-Fiction and MMORPG Storylines

Concept Features of the Source Heart Chronicles MMORPG

Wait a minute, Cougarmint. What is this really all about?

As you can see, the plan is to launch a six-part series of graphic e-novels called the Source Heart Chronicles, which explains the back story of the MMORPG and introduces four unique Source Heart characters who saved the Source Engine from the diabolical Dr. Cortez. Then, chronologically speaking, The MMORPG will be the “Seventh Season” of the story, allowing the Steam Community to participate and defeat Dr. Cortez and his army of evil hackers and creatures once and for all.

I apologize for the lack of screenshots, videos, or working demos. This is a very early concept and I’m not good at drawing, mapping, modeling, or programming – I’m more of a writer, so I hope the above documents will suffice in place of the lack of visuals and playable demos. That being said, I’m looking to get a team together for some brainstorming.

Want to help? Then join the development! There are openings available for Programming and Modeling at the moment, so if you are interested, you're invited to join the Source Hearts Fans Steam Group and audition to become part of the team! Since this is going to be a sort of “by the Community for the Community” thing (and hopefully more,) it would be great to have everyone contribute something, even if it’s just a quest line idea. I’m hoping Valve will like the idea too, and will be interested in what could be the most unique MMORPG yet, especially since it involves concepts never before seen the gaming industry.

basically you want to make a steam game on source engine and the story is about steam and source engine, with all kinds of additional valve references. it just doesnt look... interesting
