Steam Greenlight Submitted
Content Update
  • Players now visibly carry around their equipped melee weapons.
  • The bases mechanics have been fleshed out including medical, defence, morale, edicts, quests and the ability to give a speech to your survivors.
  • Notifications while travelling about the conditions at the base.
  • Some menu graphics have been updated.
  • Plenty of engine and performance optimisations and bug fixes.

Steam Greenlight concept page has had a pretty warm reception for a zombie game (considering the stigma around them) I will consider a proper Greenlight listing if ZSS gets to 100 yes votes.

Thanks to all those who voted and commented so far.

ZSS is not your typical zombie shooter game. This RPG/Simulation game currently in its second month of development aims to mash RPG sandbox exploration with Base simulation management. It combines a few different styles of games - platform/shooter, rpg, simulation and even the tamagotchi/cyberpet in the sense that your survivor and base will be effected in real-time should you ignore them too long.

  • Randomised 2D Sandbox - you will hardly ever see the same area or events in the same way twice.
  • Maintain a stronghold and its survivors.
  • Online Leader boards and Achievements. (Possibly Multiplatform)
  • Play styles to suit casual and serious gamers.
  • Cheap indie release.

While originally planned as a small indie PC project - It is now planned to be a multiplatform release (iOS, Android, PC, Mac, Linux) due to the scalability of the engine. All the current released images/videos are footage from the mobile versions - the PC, Linux and Mac version will include better filters such as shaders, high resolution sprites, less compression, higher framerate (60fps) etc.

If supported enough I will bring extra exclusive content free to the Steam versions.

The graphics at the moment are beta in the sense that sprites and menu designs will likely go through changes.

I like the idea. Always wanted zombie simulators. If this is released before project zomboid does on stea then Im getting it.

I am considering types of special infected to add more diversity to the gameplay and enemy AI. I don't really want to rip anything off though or be too ridiculous so I'll put my creative hat on.

I fully understand the misconception of a side-scroller beat-em-up it is a strange mix of styles the combat is more about preserving your ammo and weapons and trying to avoid them 99% of the time.

Also thanks for your post the answer was not directly aimed at yourself I wanted to answer it for everyone, I could tell by the way you asked that you were not being an ass. ('how is it a simulator' rather than 'how is this a simulator')

Keep the questions and suggestions coming :)

no im not questioning it i mean it looks great i just saw at first clance as a beat em up xD its great idea but i feel that certain elements have already been done to death in certain zombie survival games but thats what happens in a zombie game also will there be special infected?

As well as the RPG/sandbox part of the game in the screens (with each area containing randomised events and not linier in structure) there is base development and real-time elements - your base uses resources based on how many survivors you keep and your character gets hungrier, days pass etc every 24 hours irl.

You have to make many moral choices which effects how good/bad a person you are. There are bandits that rob you, settlements that invade and battle your base etc...

If you die it's permanent and you must start over (thinking about putting in a ghost mode where you can play your save if you die but with restrictions).

It‘s your personal opinion if you wish to call this a simulator. I haven't implemented a cheesy backstory of going into a virtual reality or something - it is what it is. This is not another FPS or MMO so if that is what you consider a simulator you should look elsewhere as there are plenty to pick from.

What do you guys expect in a simulator? :)

I felt the shopkeeper was more of an Easter egg to fans of survival horror rather than something that would constitute copyright infringement.
