How to bypass Pinion Adverts in TF2 via the Server Browser
By Doomgooey
Quickplay got the anti-pinion treatment, but the server browser had no such luck. Fear not, for the server browser has too gained such a treatment! Block Pinion wherever you go, without any need for downloads!
The easy way to an ad free Team Fortress 2
Are you tired of seeing this thing all the time?
Now you can browse TF2 without it, and here is how.
Step 1: Find the IP of the Server
Pretty Simple. Open up TF2, bring up your Server Browser and locate your favourite server that you wish to join. Right click on the server and select Server Info. In the Server Info panel you'll see the IP Address of the server you want to join, copy it, you'll need it in a second.
Step 2: Open that console up!
Exactly what it says here, open the console!
NOTE: To open the console for first time users, go to settings, advanced, and enable developer console. Then press the ~ key by default.
Step 3: The command
Now put the following code into the console and press enter.

connect IPgoeshere matchmaking

Upon pressing enter the server will connect and you will be playing while being able to close pinion! Just how does this work? Read on.
The explanation
All of it is really simple. In a recent update valve forced servers from refreshing the MOTD more than once for those who were connecting through quickplay, but not for people going through server browser. So there must be a way servers detect that people are coming from quickplay. And that something is a little word added onto a well known console command.

connect IPgoeshere

Normal connecting command, frequently used to access hidden slots on various servers or just for normal connecting needs. And who knew that adding the word matchmaking to the end would trick it into beiliving you came from quickplay!

connect IPgoeshere matchmaking

After putting the code in and connecting, you'll be able to close Pinion and stay ad-free the entire session in the server. Enjoy!
A statement
Some servers rely on Pinion to run their servers and by using this, it will starve the server and it may force them to shut down. Using this method listed in the guide is entirely up to your will. I do not hold any opinions about Pinion, this guide is solely up for the purpose of being avaible to the community.

Most server Pinions can be disabled by cl_disablehtmlmotd 1, but some have this constant text saying PLS TURN ON HTML MOTD AND ILL GO AWAY, but this is a good guide to avoid the latter.

Sometimes, I just click the continue button and press 3, so that if I glitch past the screen before It can bring me back to the pinion motd I get in the server and I only hear the advertisements.
