Zeus is a pubstomp hero who snowballs like a true boss, and is pretty easy to stomp with, if your opponents are bad enough. The reason to play Zeus is so that when he is fed enough he can kill any hero on the map who has less than 960 HP instantly. Other guides may tell you that Zeus is a support nuker that is extremely fragile and easily countered, they're right, however, Zeus in the hands of a "pro" can still do serious work. (Hint you're the pro)
These are your basic skills and should almost always be leveled in the order indicated if you're playing the solo mid position, which you should be. Arc Lightning Cast Range: 700 Bounce Distance: 500 Number Of Bounces: 5/7/9/15 Damage: 85/100/115/145 Mana : 65/70/75/80 Arc lightning in other guides is listed as primarily creep killing skill, and it does help with that. Arc Lightning also allows you to shock your opponent every 2 seconds for a decent amount of damage. Arc lightning later on is mainly for getting the most out of your passive Static field. Spam this ♥♥♥♥ whenever there are enemy heros nearby. Lightning Bolt Cast Range: 700 Damage: 100/175/275/350 Mana : 75/95/115/135 This is the spell you'll be leveling first in every single game of Zeus you play. It does massive damage and mini-stuns. This prevents teleport escapes, and it also acts as a ghetto ward giving truesight in a 900 radius of where the bolt struck. This can be useful at surprising invisible heros to get easy coordinated ganks. Static Field Radius: 1000 Percentage Of Current HP Dealt As Damage: 5%/7%/9%/11% This spell is what makes Zeus efffective the entire game long. A whopping 11% of the targets current HP dealt as magical damage. It's great but is usually leveled last for how it scales better in the late game. The radius is 1000 which is 200 less than hero experience range and is identical to Necrolytes Heartstopper Aura, so if you're laning against a Necro and see his debuff nuke away. ThunderGod's Wrath Radius: Global Damage: 225/350/475 (440/540/640*) Sight Radius: 1000 True Sight Radius: 900 Sight/True Sight Duration: 3 This spell is the reason why anyone plays Zeus. This spell will enable you to killsteal anyone, anywhere, anytime. It's important to note that all of Zeus' spells are magical damage so the kill thresholds are 75% of what the damage is defined as. Killsteal Thresholds : 168 at level 7, 262 at level 11, 337.5 at level 16 (330,405,480) With Scepter IE : If you see an enemy with that much health or lower at your respective level hit your ultimate for a guarenteed killsteal.
Early on many would say you should go for arc lightning to guarentee some easy last hits, but this wouldn't be annoying enough to whoever you're laning against. Maxing out lightning bolt first enables you to be a douchenozzle to whoever you're facing. Despite this it's good to pick up an early level of static field to get a little bit of bonus damage on the side. The other levels are as you'd expect them to be, leveling the rest of your spells and ultimates as you gain experience.
Early Game Be sure to call "Solo mid or I mid" before the game starts to get the mid lane position that you rightfully deserve and need to be the most effective. If you're a badass just take a bottle start, but if you want the additional 57 HP take yourself 3 iron branches and get your bottle by 2 minutes. While laning be sure to spam as many spells as your mana supply allows. If you can't maintain rune control with your slow ♥♥♥ hero, just use arc lightning to get yourself some gold. Zeus benefits alot from Arcane Boots and those will be the next item to be picked up in most games.
Mid Game In the mid game Zeus should be using runes or smoke of deceit to gank the lanes as many times as he can. Always remember to save Lightning Bolt and Thundergod's Wrath to steal kills to help get core items up faster. Zeus is very farm dependant and the more kills he can steal from the teams carry the better. The standard combo for ganking is spamming Arc Lightning until the enemy heros are low enough to be bolted to death. If a gank ever fails be sure to ping allied heroes in the lane you were attempted to gank to let them know they should have supported you, this is very essential.
Late Game In the later stages of the game Zeus should have all the items he needs. If you don't have your core items up by around 40 minutes you probably forget the vital aspect of stealing kills. The general focus of spam arc lightning until they are low enough to be bolted applies however Zeus is now a lot more fragile and needs to be coddled by his team. If your team doesn't coddle well enough and you get ganked remember that it is definitely not your fault. Remember that magic damage does start to fall off as health pools increase, however, if you see any enemy heros with a cloak/ hood of defiance/ or pipe of insight be sure to call them terrible and note how "X hero should never get Pipe" When you inevitably win the game be sure to explain how you hard carried your team to victory to both sides.
Every Game of Zeus you play should follow this same progression.
Bottle as soon as possible
Arcane boots following the bottle.
Scepter after that for increased global killstealing
Refresher forr hitting the R button twice and picking up a skillful triple kill.
Considered core after refresher because it turns Zeus into Mario with fire flower power.
This item sucks never use it 25% increased magic damage is way too overrated and it costs 2650.gold , and it's also an active item which are usually pretty hard to use.
Skills Required To Play Zeus
Zeus is a high skill hero that is almost as difficult to play as drow ranger. Be sure to let the enemy know how good you are whenever you land your skillshot ultimate ability.
Zeus requires tons of micromanagemnt, map awareness, last hitting skills, and overall game knowledge. If you're new to dota 2 you may want to steer clear of him for awhile.
